Installing Septic

I have read quite a bit of info on septic systems and had a few questions to ask. I have a dry creek bed along the side of our property that sheds rain water and will be dry a day or so after a rain. From my understanding there is a setback of 50' for the leach field to this creek (is this correct?).

Our land currently has a 4 br perc site that is staked out for the field. Is it possible to expand to a 5 br and if so does that involve expanding the current staked leach field?

I understand that it does require a larger leach area and tank when installed than 4br depending on gpd, but does expanding a site only require more land or is 4br the max allowed from the test?

A 4br perc will work for us but I would like to build a larger system that can handle more incase of expansion down the road. (finishing basement or detached buildings) We have 12 acres and plenty of open ground the gently slopes away from the build site to install a large leach field.

Thanks for the help
