Be sure your code inspector allows it. If he does, it's only with very specific materials, which is part of the expense. If it's not done correctly, it's a FIRE HAZARD, which is why a lot of locations prohibit it entirely. Standard wiring isn't meant to move. It's not up to the wear and tear of opening and shutting the drawers.

Ahh... Electrical overages, we were charged about $100 per outlet we added, so this isn't really a surprise to me.

I would opt for outlets in the cabinet, not the drawer, and then run an extension cord up and into the drawer. Extension cords are more durable for movement. We used surge protectors in this manner to make a charging drawer.

I'd be fearful that the real cost could be burning down your house!

It is completely possible to put a plug in a drawer and meet code. No worry of your house burning down!

Ask your electrician the cost of installing an extra plug, I bet it isn't that far off the price of an extra plug in a drawer!

I have to laugh vs crying because i had electrical walk thru last week and just received estimate and their charging me $290 for one plug in a vanity. I can’t believe that people are so eager to take advantage of someone who has hired them to do a rebuild after suffering a house fire.

I just put gas in my car at $5.09 per gallon. That has to have a ripple effect.

@Remodel Best - my in-drawer outlet was $238.50, and that was just the cost of the outlet itself from a supplier. If you are getting a good outlet in a drawer for $290 that is a steal.

Also I installed a new 20 amp outlet in my shop that was 35' from my subpanel and the wire alone was $200.

I got another estimate and it’s $4k cheaper but thanks for your input. Certainly nothing is cheap these days!

@Remodel Best - You asked a question about paying $290 for one plug in a vanity drawer and then note that you got another estimate for $4k cheaper... Is the electrician paying you $3,710 for the privilege of installing your outlet?
