Time-line for mechanicals - first question

Indiana.swim.mom

We are building a 3,500 square foot house in the midwest. It is two stories with an unfinished basement. How long should we expect the mechanicals to take? The GC should told us that the mechanicals should take 6 to 8 weeks. I assume that means it will be 6 to 8 weeks until our drywall can even be started. Our original target was the beginning of August.

We broke ground in March. The framing just was finished and the roof is finally going on. This is our first custom build and we are unsure if our GC is just feeding us a line and putting us on the back burner or if our project is really a priority.
