It would be worth it to me... but only you know if it is worth it to YOU!

For me, it would definitely be worth it to gain more than a foot of headspace in the basement. It would make the area feel much lighter and airier... but that's me... I'm quite tall, so sensitive to ceiling heights.

When we had our modular built, we wanted the lowest beam, pipe, etc in the cellar to be 8 feet. It cost $1,000 extra but we have no regrets. Should we ever want to finish off the cellar, we will have 8 ft ceilings.

That's a very reasonable extra charge to virtually guarantee you a nine-foot clear ceiling height.
