Half Bath door wide enough?

I really wanted our half bath door to be wide enough to be considered handicap accessible. We were thinking that we could possibly add a shower at a later date. The way it is right now the door is only 2'4". The designer said there isn't room to make it bigger. Do you think it's because of the closet beside the bathroom? She said she is leaving enough room for 5" trim on the main level. Maybe that's part of the problem.

Any suggestions on how to make this work? I like the half bath at the "end" of the mudroom area because it makes everything else flow well.

28 inches is not wide enough... minimum is 36" for doorways.

But it is a moot point, as that powder room is not big enough for a wheelchair.

Yes, I know a wheelchair wouldn't fit. I just wanted the doorway to be wide enough for a walker. You know, one of those walkers on wheels with a little seat in it?

36" is minimum for commercial building. 28" is adequate for a powder room that isn't universal access anyway. 24" is actually minimum access for a residential bath without universal access. 32" is standard residential interior door width. You don't need a big door into a tiny room.
