Recommendations for Red Cedar Shingles in MA

Hi
We are building a house here in Massachusetts and have decided on red cedar shakes. Our house is about 55 square, and we got a price back for $320 a square. I have no idea if this is a fair price or not, so trying to get a few other quotes in. The price is for 7 inch - single dipped- red cedar. If you have had a good experience with anyone in the northeast area we would appreciate the advice.

7" would be the exposure I presume, but what type of shakes? Single dipped in what?

Are they for the wall or roof? Such a large exposure will probably require them to be 24" long which is expensive. Red cedar shakes will be shipped from the Pacific northwest and will be hand-split and that is more expensive than red cedar sawn shingles. The most practical and most common shingles in MA are white cedar sawn shingles factory dipped in stain or bleaching oil with a 5" exposure.
