Hardwood floors - acclimate to environment

We are having hardwood floors (red oak) installed throughout the house. The wood was delivered yesterday and I'm pretty sure they're installing it now. We don't have HVAC yet. We're in central SC. Aren't hardwood floors supposed to acclimate before installing?

Generally 2 weeks with the HVAC on and functioning well prior to the flooring being delivered so the underlayment and subfloor all has an opportunity to acclimate. I would certainly not allow them to install the flooring if that were my house, sounds to me like a recipe for disaster!

Yes, we built in NC, and they wouldn't install our floors (5" white oak) until the HVAC was on, and the planks had been in the house for a couple of weeks. Even then, there was a bit of cupping they had to address before they could sand and stain. Definitely DO NOT let them sand them until they are straight and flat. Which they certainly won't be until they get that HVAC on.
