Old Roof or new Radiant Barrier

We are in the Bay Area in CA and remodelling our home. Part of the old structure to remain has the roof shown in the photo. ( More wood planks). The remodeled part built by the contractor has LP TechShield radient barrier. We are considering having the old roof removed and replaced with a new roof since the edges of the old roof have been rotting . The sub says the old roof is good and to only replace the rotting end parts that were exposed to the elements. Need advise on which is better. We are in the hills and will not need and A/c since not much cooling is required.

Need advise. Should we remove the old roof completely or just the rotted pieces, or go with the radiant roof as per our contract.
