Mortar Wash / Smear / Bagging / Rendering? Inspiration Pictures I

I am wanting to add some mortar smear to my new home, but can not figure out where the best place to add it would be. I was thinking about above the front porch and around the poles holding the front porch up.
I would like to add more but just don't know how it would look.
I believe I would like the buff colored mortar wash, but my builder put gray mortar between the bricks. The trim is tan around the house.
Opinions needed please... Photoshop could also help.
