I guess my question should read..... Is there anything that can be done to expedite the off gassing. I've done further research and learned that some have problems with pooling in floor vents. This isn't our issue as we have ceiling vents. There are no adjacents rooms with carpet so I know it isn't trapped in carpet padding. Any other ideas?

If you do decide to re-finish, join the modern world and use water based finishes. Tough to beat the Bona line.

Wow, wished I had known water based was an option. How does it compare in cost and durability.

You get what you pay for of course. Bona has several price levels and I feel they all perform as well or better than poly for durability but the 2 part Traffic seems to be the most durable, a good choice for stairs in particular. We use the Mega product on all our stain grade trim too. Its really good stuff!
