Repairing severe hail damage--best insulation under siding?

In the recent storms, one of our homes was severely damaged, the siding and windows were all destroyed by baseball size hail. We are removing all the siding. We currently have siding, then 1/4" insulation board then another 3/4" insulation board and then batting, home wrap then drywall. I want to remove all the insulation boards and batts and replace it with spray foam. Can I have it sprayed directly onto the moisture barrier? I think I should go with closed spray foam since it protects against air and moisture? Would I need to put something over the foam before re-hanging the siding? To get maximum insulation how many inches or do you feel like there is a more cost effective way to get maximum R value when doing a replacement project like this? The home is in Nebraska. Thanks.
