I am building a Shingle Style home in Chicago Burbs. I like the tighter look of the Perfection 5 1/4 Shingles versus the Tapersawn. It will cost me an extra $2K. My contractor thinks Perfection Shingles might curl more than Tapersawn.

Is there a way to prevent Cedar Shingles - particularly Perfection Cedar Shingles from curling? Is curling a sign of not applying them properly? Or do cedar shingles curl?

The contract said the curling was the biggest problem but rather splitting that is the result of excessive curling.
