We have a Decra metal roof in their Villa Tile. I have seen the shake look in it and it is Amazing looking. Very realistic... expensive looking roofs. Here is a pic of mine... though it is tile looking it fools the majority of my contractors. Get a list of roofs to look at in your area that have the Decra. We love it.

Roofing in Normandy is historically made of black slate. There are many imitative slate roofing materials: composite, metal, asphalt, etc.

Decra shake pic... It comes in many colors.

Honfleur is in the center of Normandy on the coast. They use dark slate for the roofs and the walls of buildings in the town.

Google 'metal shingles'. There all sorts of styles and colors to choose from. They are expensive, though.

The term you meant was 'standing seam'. I don't care for them. We went with old-fashioned 5V 'tin' to match the older homes here in the rural South.
