article about how to chose a company for energy rating/audit

for homeowners about how to chose a company to do energy audit/rating.
I've forwarded it to some of the folks who have contacted me about ratings.
nice to have an independent source providing the same info.
I thought it may be of use to some of y'all also.
http://www.energyvanguard.com/blog-b...e-Energy-Audit
and for those who think that you can't have a comprehensive rating without
a thermal scan..an excerpt from the article:
"Two things to be wary of are the 'free energy audit' (usually offered by companies who just want to get into your house to sell you their product or service) and the yahoo who bought an infrared camera and thinks it can find everything. Use the guidelines above to choose a home energy auditor, and you'll get a much better audit."
I think everyone knows how I feel about free/reduced rate/utility subsidised ratings.
I've gotten jobs where the rater before me took all kinds of pretty thermal scan pictures
for the homeowner. when they couldn't explain what was actually occuring at the
site of the pic..or how to address this site..homeowner called me.
so thanks to yahoo, but learn your stuff!
Twice since 1999 I've had someone come to thermal scan a home. both homes were
antibellum homes and homeowner wanted to 'see' rather than just to feel where
leakage areas were, both were willing to pay both themographer & me.
themographer to run camera in conjunction with me blower door testing.
doing the two in conjunction is the only way that the thermal scan will 'show'
everything. one homeowner was an lawyer, the other a dr.
I've never had less than 30% utility savings, usually 40% and higher in my
energy rating business.

The cure of the part should not be attempted without the cure of the whole. ~Plato
