lori_inthenw I'm not building (yet) but have that kind of dream/nightmare when I'm deep in major projects. It's my cue to step away for a bit and get some distance. But in my husbands case, he dreams of solutions to engineering issues that he's working on during the day.

I've been building homes since the late '80s and in my dreams my homes are forever crumbling into Poltergeistlike pits of Hell. (Which have nothing on real life Florida sinkholes.)

I was hoping the word "literally" would help, but you know, I do hear it used wrong a lot!

Bad: stairs too steep to climb, stairs with a precipice between them and the floor. Halls that shrink so I get stuck.
Good: hidden rooms that are beautiful or filled with undiscovered, undisturbed antiques.

I have these dreams all the time but mine are that some huge problem will arise at the end of the build and cost a ton of money we don't have.

I love my 'hidden place' dreams. Finding out after living in a familiar place for a long time that there's some door you just never bothered to open and behind it is an endless stream of rooms and things.

OP, I've not even started building yet and I've had dreams of living in what amounts to a shack and that it's falling apart around me. You're not the only one!

I love the "hidden rooms" version, too-- a reaction to the fear that we are downsizing too much, I guess! I haven't had the "falling down around me" nightmare yet-- but I bet it's coming!
