Does this sound right??

We are in the final stages of making selections for our new construction and sign off on everything on Friday. I just wanted to run something by you all before I ask the builder.......

One of the upgrades we chose was to add window grids to all the windows in the house ( also known as window paines) for only $30/window. We also put in to have grids on the single glass door off the family room ( NOT a double French door but a single glass door) and they want $600!! This just does NOT make sense to me since we have some windows in the house that are larger than that single door for $30! Why is it so much more to add grids to a door than to a window? Are there any other less expensive options? It will look ridiculous not having grids next to the windows that have them!
Any advice? Thanks!!

What kind of grids? What kind of windows?

Maybe the grids on the french door are all individual panes of glass...not just a snap on piece like the windows?

We have grids on the front of the house, but not on the back...we wanted the view of our lake.

Are you going to cover it with blinds? Maybe go for the french doors that have the blinds between the glass!

Millworkman: this is how it is described: "10 Lite Grid Panel added to the Therma-Tru Smooth Star Painted Door. Not Tru Divided Lite. Panel installed between glass like windows".

Based on above ^^^^ it sounds like it is just a panel added.....still seems like a lot to me

I have a single non-divided 36" glass door by thermatru in my walkout basement that I think ran $400-500. Upstairs i have a pella pro line with grills between the glass that cost $1300 including hardware. The pella door has the 3 point lock and is much nicer than the thermatru. If you're near the cost of the pella with the upgrade, I'd go for the pella...

Grids to a Therma Tru door will add to the cost, $300 I don't know but definitely a hell of a lot more than a vinyl window. rids between the lass add generally about $5 a sq ft while applied grilles like your T.T. there is no guideline as I am aware of. Get another price if you think it is out of line.

Check to see what kind of grids they're doing. The first grids (internal, not between glass) we had on our Hurd windows were flimsy and awful. Slowly fell apart over the next 3 or 4 years. After that we went with a much heavier grid that also had a fairly heavy trim for about $70/window that are still in great shape after 20 years.
