Composite/Fiber Cement Shake

I've benefited from this forum so I thought I would post a picture of our Nichiha pre-stained shake. The vendor was Carolina Colortones and we couldn't be happier with the look. Everyone thinks it's authentic cedar shake!

Looks fantastic. Can you tell me why you went with the pre-stain?
My builder is telling me that the boards will get nicked up in the installation process and that we should just stain everything after they are hung.
This is a new product for our builder and want to make sure he is going about it the right way.
Thanks for any help.

What color is the stain? We are going with stained nichiha shake from carolina colortones as well but we're having a hard time choosing a color!
