Hardie Artisan lap siding

I didn't want to hijack the other hardie threads. Any of you who had considered the artisan--

--If you decided not to use the artisan, what was your reason and what did you end up using?

--If you did use it, could you share your experience. Such as how easy the installation appeared to go, how long you've had it, did you do field or factory painting, mitered corners or corner boards, how is it holding up, any photos? What did you use for trim?

I'm encouraged by the promise of this product--deep shadow lines like cedar but hopefully holding paint better.

I'm impressed with the photos but haven't yet been able to view it in person on a house. It seems to be a newer product with a shorter track record and not used as much as regular thin hardie. Thanks

We have the Artisan siding in our build and we love the way it looks. Our house is a few weeks away from completion, so I can't speak to any significant experience with it.

For us, the siding was available only as factory primed and we had to paint it on site. We did not do the mitered corners as our builder told us that would add to the installation cost significantly. He also said that the mitered corners could be susceptible to damage (if for example, you run into it and chip a piece off, etc.).

For us, the cost difference between the thin siding and the Artisan was about $4,000.

We are getting it, but are currently in framing so I can't speak of any firsthand experience right now...but give me a few months. We saw it in person at the home and garden show and it solidified it for us. It is beautiful and heavy!

The only downside to using the Artisan is that you also have to use their trim. It's fine for us, as it's heavy and solid and felt better than any of the samples I had seen.

Also, it is costing us $11K more than regular Hardie plank to use the Artisan siding. I'm hoping it will all be worth it in the end; it gives a look like nothing else we've seen.

We aren't doing mitered corners. My builder said the same thing.

Researching the Artisan Hardi siding verses regular James Hardi siding. Remodeling a 1925 house with the 1925 cedar siding. I would like to install the Artisan, however I am concerned about the costs. Is there anyone who can give some numbers regarding the cost difference? Are there any additional costs for installation verses the regular James Hardi siding? Also what about the mitered corners ?

It may be too late for your project but I think the Artisan is about $1/sq more

I put Hardiboard Artisan on plus Nichiha shingles in 2010. Painted in the field. I don’t regret it. They look so much better to me than the regular hardiboard. My Contractor installed so I can’t speak to your other questions.
