Have you considered using "pre-hung" doors?

Yeah, I'd actually prefer prehung. But this is just such a good deal I thought it might save money to buy them and the frames separately and still come out ahead.

However... I just realized that the doors might not be wide enough. My plans say 28 80 which I understand is 2 ft 8 inches wide x 8 ft tall. These doors say 28 x 96 and so now I'm thinking they're actually 28 inches wide, very narrow.

I've asked the seller to let me know for sure. But I should have known it was too good to be true! :)

Whatever you save on buying non pre-hung doors, you will spend on custom building these jambs, hinges, refinishing and more +++.

I would not be switching from 32" door to 28" either.

Door width should depend on what usage is planned for the rooms with the doors. For all major and frequently used rooms (and for rooms where wheelchair access may be needed), I'd use 36"-wide doors. These doors allow for moving large objects into/out of the room and for passage while carrying bulky objects. Just one approach.

"Bargains" usually aren't. They didn't work for someone else and they won't really work for you. They'll end up costing you far more than pre-hung by the time you pay the extra labor.
