What thickness should marble tiles be for walls and floors?

I'm finding both half inch and also 3/8" thickness for marble tiles for walls and floors, but don't know which is best for these applications. thank you.

What is the substrate, size of the tiles, installation method, and room use?

These will be for the walls in our bathroom, new construction and 12" square.
