I can't see where you are talking about from this drawing? Can you post a larger shot? Any thoughts on putting it beside the fireplace or are those windows there? Are they high windows? I am not that old but my eyes are getting to where I can't read that fine print!

You already have 2 competing focal points in the room...the FP and the view. You don't want to add a 3rd in the TV on yet another wall.I would put the tv to the right of the FP. Then arrange an L shaped grouping with the furniture so one sofa faces the FP and TV and the other faces the view...then all 3 can be enjoyed simultaneously.

I like the suggestions proposed by Annie and Autumn with the TV beside the fireplace, especially the last one with the continuous mantel. We struggled with this issue for a long time. We too had quite a few windows to contend with. Something to consider is whether you want your seating area with its back to the other open concept rooms that adjoin or whether you want to have some of your seating facing adjoining rooms. I can't tell from your floor plan, but is there a dining room and/or kitchen on the bottom of the screen that is not shown? If so, consider if you want those seated in the great room to be facing those rooms or not.

Another idea to consider is those concealed TVs on lifts. They lower into cabinets when not in use and can conceal a TV nicely. We are going this route to downplay the TV. Here is our plan for what it is worth. It might give you some ideas. There is a table shown (looks like a console table) that will be behind the loveseat. It will conceal a TV lift inside -- these TVs also swivel to give the right viewing angle (they can also swivel 180 degrees which would allow in our case those washing dishes or dining to view TV. We also had to deal with glare from the various windows in the room. In the proposed location the TV glare will be minimized as there is not a window directly across. In our plan, those seated on the window seat,, two chairs and couch will be able to view the TV. Many of those seated will be able to face and converse with people in the dining room/kitchen which are to the right and right/south of the great room.

Good luck with your TV/fireplace puzzle, Many before on these boards have struggled with this same issue.

Our current set up is almost what you're proposing. Don't. As Annie said, you'd have three competing focal points. Since you are just building, could you just move the fireplace to the left on the same wall, and have the TV on the right? No law says that the fireplace, or TV, has to be centered.

I like the suggestions above too. Annie's post got me thinking about your furniture placement. You have kind of a large dead space in front of the LR door, compounded by the closet door opening into the FR. If you move those down the wall, you'll have a longer wall for placing furniture. (See image mockup.)

You would lose symmetry in the LR wall, but you would gain flexibility in the FR. I'd recommend making to-scale furniture cut outs and place them around the room in various ways to see what works.
