You need to more clearly define your needs first.
What will this be used for?
Are you simply storing important documents or crown jewels?
What do you hope to accomplish and who are you hoping to thwart?

What am I storing? Good question -- I should've thought to specify. We want to store a couple notebooks filled with important documents in plastic page protectors (i.e., birth certificates, passports, insurance documents). A couple flash drives filled with photographs. A fair amount of cash money. And 8-10 hand guns.

My husband has suggested a second, tall safe for long guns.

Prime candidates spots:

- The office "backs up to" the staircase. We could easily put a safe into a hidey-hole in the short end of the staircase -- space that's pretty much useless for everything else.

- Under a cabinet in the laundry room. We have ample space here, and I'd hide it with a curtain.

- The master bedroom closet. We have a "dip" in the wall that would allow for plenty of space.
