cedar siding flashing

I am building a new house and I have installed Pella windows over Tyvek. I would like to add 1x4 cedar trim around my windows, and bring my cedar clapboard down to the 1x4 trim. My question is, where the siding comes down and meets the top 1x4, does that get caulked or do I have to use a metal flashing. I've been told that it is ok to do either way, is this true?

RE: cedar siding flashing

The flashing at the top of the trim MUST be metal or PVC and preformed in a Z shape. Don't let anyone tell you that sealant is appropriate in this location; it is not. The Tyvek should already be cut so that it overlaps the Pella nailing fin. If it isn't, take the window out and start over using Tyvek's instructions.
