SodaStream machine anyone?

I got a 'SodaStream' machine for Christmas & was wondering if anyone else who has one has an opinion about it? I like my sodas with lots of carbonation & restaurants seem to have their drinks with more carbonation than the canned ones I buy. This 'SodaStream'really does have a way to increase the carbonation in the drinks but so far it seems to be really less sweet even for me! Wonder how fast the co2 runs out of the bottles & have to send them back to refill?

Would like to hear from anyone that has used these machines & how they like it!

I have researched this, tons to read when you google, ..not here.

Most people are complaining about getting new bottles,..not cheap!
If it was me,...I would get a large CO2 bottle and re-fill my own.

Since I'm wondering about the CO2 in my drinks, [post below] ..I came to the conclusion that the easiest to put CO2 in is in plain water, [cold].

Anything sweet will be more of a challenge, I think???

Please let me know if I'm right.

I just bought the same machine last week 11-29-23. 15 years later the Zo Supreme haven't corrected the problems that you experience back then. I'm disappointed as well! Top crust very light, sides and bottom very dark and crust is extremely like a brick. My old machines produced much better loafs of bread and way less cheaper. This machine is excellent for making dough but not for making bread in the machine. I thought I was buying a machine to do both actions great. NOPE! Perhaps the Virtuoso Plus is better? I would not recommend the supreme model!

I have one. I go through easily 3-4 liters of seltzer a day and it was getting expensive and hard to lug that many plastic bottles home from the store. We have the 130L cartridge one (from Costco), but because I like it really fizzy and I go through so many liters a day, it was empty in a couple weeks. And I could only get the smaller sized refill canisters at the local stores -- I would have had to mail-order the larger ones. So I invested a little more in a freedom one hose from a company called CO2 Doctor. It lets you hook up a 20lb CO2 tank (like you'd find in a restaurant fountain soda machine) to the sodastream. Although the initial outlay was high -- about $100 for the sodastream, $100 for the freedom one hose, $65 for a used CO2 tank on craigslist, then $30 to exchange the tank for a full one at the local Airgas -- my expenses now are nothing -- one $30 tank of air lasts me almost a year -- at an average of 3 liters a day with several extra pumps per bottle. If I was more frugal with the carbonation level, it would last close to 2 years. So now the $30 that used to get me about 2 weeks worth of seltzer gets me 10 months. Definitely one of the best purchases I ever made. One downside - you will have to find a place to put the 20lb co2 tank - it's big and heavy. We have our sodastream sitting on a pantry shelf with the tank sitting on the floor, all hidden behind the closet door. My sister has friends (who told us about the freedom one in the first place) who keep their sodastream on the counter and the tank in the cabinet below (they drilled a hole for the hose in the counterop). I have no affiliation with the CO2 doctor website or the freedom one product, but if you are a heavy sodastream user and you have the room for the larger tank, I highly recommend it! (I will link to the CO2 doctor site below -- they also have products that let the sodastream take paintball gun CO2 canisters -- apparently, that is also cheaper than purchasing refills through sodastream....) Good advice, guys. I appreciate it. I think we will pass. They’re asking $125, and they don’t want to answer any questions in writing. And the kids are now thinking they might manage to buy a house before the baby comes. It won’t be too much worse than the rent they are paying, and a house might have a REAL laundry room. Then we could gift them a 27” set. They would be in heaven.

We have one and use it daily. We like it less fizzy and add our own fresh juice. I like it with grapefruit fresh squeezed, think Fresca. Much cheaper than buying canned or bottled and no more cans in the recycling. Our local store has the cartridges and they last forever. I works best if you chill the filled bottles in the fridge first. We have three in constant rotation. We put a thick small rubber band around the necks when a couple are -fizzed- so we know which one to pull out. We don't like sugared sodas so works for us.
Some friends kids visiting had a blast experimenting and making their own beverages.
Use honey or maple syrup and experiment. Just found a second on at a yardsale for our vacation home.

I use it all the time as I like the more carbonation than in the cans or bottles of soda. I do use twice the amount of the flavoring though in each bottle too (favorites so far are the rootbeer & cola & I don't get the sugarfree flavors). Get the different favors cheaper at WalMart. Haven't had to replace the CO2 in the bottle yet so naot sure how $$ that will be. If it weren't a gift, would I buy one? Probably not.... but now that I have one, I will continue to use it!

My wife likes ours but she drinks only bottled water with the light carbonation the SodaStream adds, she thinks bottled soda or sparkling water is too fizzy.

Personally I don't think it was worth the money. I use it to add a bit of sparkle to lemonade or to thin Ginger beer but I can do a better job of that (much easier too) with a two liter bottle of generic Soda water. Every SodaStream flavour I've tried has been disgusting.. but I think most soda flavours are disgusting so that could be me.
