Has your cocktail shaker ever stuck shut?

| I can't get the darn thing back open. It's metal, not very expensive ($9.99 at BB&B) and I've only used it a few times. It's always been difficult to pry apart once I poured the liquid out through the strainer, but the last time I used it was downright impossible. It's still stuck together and I guess I'm going to toss it.
So my question is -- what made it stick? Should I get a certain kind, certain material, certain brand, to make sure the next one I buy opens easily?

| Ours has stuch when it hasn't been thoroughly cleaned... but even if it has... soak it in warm/hot water to "expand" the the lid, and release any alcohol that may be acting as glue... |
