Whiskey?

I have a recipe for Irish Cream that calls for Irish whiskey. Can someone tell me what is the difference between Irish whiskey and the cheaper whiskey I have on hand. Would it make a big difference in the taste? I also was wondering if I could substitute rum for whiskey. As you may be able to tell, I'm not much for hard liquor so I don't know if the substitutions will be acceptable. Thanks in advance for your help. BT

I am much for hard liquor. Regarding "whiskey", there are subtle differences among Irish whiskey, Scotch,Canadian, sour mash bourbon and straight whiskey. Baileys, makes an excellent Irish Cream. Now, back to your original question, if you want to make an Irish cream of your own, use the whiskey your have. NO, rum is not an acceptable substitute for whiskey or bourbon.

It's not always subtle. Some brands of Scotch smell like beer.

Bailey's makes a creamer, so you can have both for the non whiskey drinkers.
