Sounds like a fun idea. Will you be growing mostly the plants listed there (not counting the big trees and non-hardy ones of course), or will you be interested in other things? If so... Agastache rupestris has a root beer-like scent. Horehound cough drops always smell a bit like root beer to me, so maybe horehound itself (marrubium vulgare) smells the same. I think chocolate was on the list?? Berlandera lyrata is a daisy-like flower that reportedly smells like chocolate, as do chocolate cosmos (Cosmidium). And this may be totally irrelavant to you, but Stachys coccinea 'Hidalgo' smells exactly like 7-Up. I have gotten it to overwinter in a protected spot, but should be treated as an annual in colder zones. Might be a fun companion plant to the root beer plants ;-) CMK

20% vinegar is very,very caustic. It's drain-o strong. Wear full protection when you use it and be really careful about not getting it on you. It will also STERILIZE the soil. I use it for "crack weeds" in the sidewalk only. I like the "paint"(or use a tiny spray like Roselee does) roundup/herbicide method it only kills what you're aiming to kill and doesn't get herbicide where it isn't needed/wanted. It's much less stressful on the environment and a lot less expensive. Label the heck outta your spray bottle too. I've had to take away my BT (empty) bottle away from the kids wanting to use it as a squirt bottle. I put warnings they can understand (the youngest one) on it now. PJ

Marissa_dc: mofojoy (aka moniqua, monica, I think) used black tiles in hers, but they were slightly larger than the 1 5/8". She doesn't have black counters, but her pics will give you an idea of how the black looks in the backsplash. I think she bought the 11 sheets of the amber tiles from Modern Tile and sold the extras to other GWers. I have natural cherry cabs (so, no stain - are yours stained?) and black granite (jet mist). I think I have the same replacement tiles that kristine_2009 has, from the same dye lot, lighter than we all wanted. I ordered mine from glass tile oasis. My back splash is installed and I love it - the replacement tiles match my cabinets very closely, but my cabinets will darken some over time. I used ORB pulls and knobs which I think picks up the black counter tops (although ORB isn't truly black, but close). These tiles amber glass tiles are color-changing and definitely affected by lighting, not to mention camera flash, exposure, etc. It sounds like the latest dye lot is definitely lighter (thanks, Kristine for investigating that!) but I wonder how much lighter. I just think it's so hard to tell - mine look darker with my under cabinet lights on, which wasn't what I was expecting! I've linked mofojoy's photobucket. I'm embedding one of her photos that shows lighter and darker amber tiles depending on the lighting, possibly the camera flash (the black ones are there too, easily identified because they're a bit bigger).
