Grind and brew coffee makers

Like so many people I'm always looking for that elusive "perfect cup of coffee". We grind our own beans and use an automatic drip pot. I'm interested in some opinions on various grind and brew coffee makers. Does anyone out there have one and what are your thoughts on it? TIA for any info.

I can't belief no one has responded to this. Let me be the first. I also am always looking for the perfect cup of coffee. Used to have the Capresso (with the grinder). It made good coffee, but when something broke, Capresso had us send it back and sent us a replacement. Turned out to be a USED replacement which didn't impress me very much. We then went to the Melitta Grind & Brew which we loved. Bought it off Amazon for $50, liked it so much we bought another just to have (price went up to $60). Good thing we did, because the little Melitta lasted for 1 year. We then opened our stashed Melitta, and that is currently dying on us, after only 2 months! I've been doing a lot of research on this, decided to try the Krups 10-cup grind & brew which I will get next week and will let you know what I think. It got good reviews from what I found on the web. FYI, the Capresso was hard to clean and the Melitta, because it doesn't require filters, was also hard to clean and the mesh basked actually separated from the plastic casing (which was our fault because we had to bang it on the side of the garbage because we don't have a garbage disposal - on septic system here). I will let you know how I like the Krups!

I bought the Cuisinart with the burr grinder about 3 weeks ago and am hoping Bed Bath and Beyond will take it back because it is a PITA. I resisted buying a grind & brew before because I heard they were hard to clean. I was attracted to this one because it advertised that it was easy to clean and that it held 1/2 lb of beans, eliminating one step each day. After about 1 week of use, I got a pot of plain water. I reset everything thinking I had pushed the "bypass grind" button by mistake. It did it again. I took the machine apart and found that the chute the ground coffee goes through was jammed and no coffee could get through to brew. I spent about 1/2 hour unclogging the jam and tried to figure out what I had done wrong. Apparently this happens occasionally. To avoid it,you have to dry all the pieces after washing. I guess the residual moisture from replacing the parts just after washing was enough to solidify the grounds remaining in the chute, and after several days of this, the chute completely closed up. I bought this machine so I would have less work than grinding coffee and then brewing it in my Braun, but frankly, the old system was actually much work overall.

We generally grind our own but only if we have company staying over. I don't drink coffee on a daily basis and DH just heads off to the donut shop each morning for his. If I do have coffee at home when no one else is here, I use instant crystals and dress it up with creamers and sweetener. I read a lot and it seems in books drinking a fresh brewed, steaming hot cup of black coffee is always romanticized. I simply can't get into coffee in its natural state. Wish I could. Jodi-

My goodness, aren't you precious?!!! They don't exactly have an email address that I could find, just one of those FAQ pages...but I'll look again. And thank you SO MUCH for your offer!! Our DD's fiance's parents will be spending the winter in Florida, and they said I could use their address for anything I wanted to purchase. I hope they have room in their van on the way home for some of the things I'd want! LOL! On the other hand, my DH and I will be in Detroit for the Lions/Packers game on your Thanksgiving, and OMG...we'll be shopping on your Black Friday!! My percolator makes great coffee. I enjoy a cup or two each morning. I wished I was borned in the US and would have known about coffee percolator a long ago. What a difference a cup of coffee from a percolator makes. It's smooth and flavourable. Another tip is to add a sprinkle (1 cup) or a dash (5 cups)of salt into the coffee ground. It will take the bitterness away from the coffee and you won't taste the salt. Unless, the coffee is processed for the bitter taste.
