Could you list what parts you used? I was at lowes today and was looking in the pvc parts for something I could put together. A 4'' canister and caps w/ hose threads. I didn't find any thing at all like it. Lucky (or unlucky) you! I found a picture. It looks like it was taken with an old Barbie camera, so apologies for the quality. You can barely see the gray colored thread adaptor at the right side. You can see the kitty litter I used, charcoal, and Scotch brite pad I cut down to keep the filter innerds from flowing out into the hose. If you have trouble finding the thread adaptors to go from hose threads to the pipe thread, ask a clerk. I had to ask everywhere I went looking for them. It looks like I did not use any PVC pipe at all but only used pipe fittings. This experiment was from June of 2003 so I've forgotten a lot since then. If you want to get an idea of a ratio of charcoal to kitty litter (zeolite), crack open a filter from one of those water filters you put into the container in your fridge (like a Pur). I was surprised to find only a few specks of black charcoal inside. Most of it is zeolite. Still luckier YOU! I just went out and searched the archives of my garage and found the filter. Here's a modern picture. As you can see I did use 2-inch PVC pipe in the middle. This picture shows the threaded parts much better. It has to come apart somewhere to fill, or refill, with the filter medium. The gray nipple on the left side is straight pipe threads, not hose threads. The female hose fits on the male pipe threads okay (not great), but at the other end I wanted a better solution. It is a real pipe to hose connector. If I had it to do over again I would use 3-inch pipe for more filter volume and less water speed through the filter medium.

Hello Laura How was the storm? Hopefully not so bad. Here in CA they almost don't exist lol. Hopfuly no damage to your garden i know plumerias don't like wind. Btw I too have two verigated plumerias that I purchased at the avocado festival this year at La Habra Heights here in CA from a guy that brought cuttings from his trip to Thailand and grafted them here they seem to be doing great. I also bought 4 more plumerias from him that I can't wait to see blooms so far one of the dark pinks I got bloomed and it was great and Kimo is about to bloom. I read somewhere that the verigated variety don't bloom that often? Any ways back to Adeniums I wanted to ask a big favor if your willing. To please ask your friend if she did buy some double flowering adeniums from anyamanee if they did flower double not just single that's what I'm most interested on. I know that the color just depends on the growing conditions but I want to know if she did buy doubles if they all did bloom double. I would really appreciate your help. Thanks

Hi, Thanks for the encouragement and suggestions the Corian fabrication site is really great. We are definately going to give this a try. We had heart failure when we got the labor bill for fabricating the countertops $50 for every corner and some outrageous price per foot for the ogee edging.We were too naive. We are just going to cut rectangle door fronts from the remaining material and soften the edges. From the Corian site it looks like the subsurface may need to be cement board which is available but will really be heavy for a door. It doesn't get any better than living on St John. We have been in the house for a year the kitchen is very useable but needs lots of finishing. The backsplash the mantel the dumb waiter and some built ins are holding eveything up. Electricans are $100 plus per hour and we have lot's of electric to finish. Hopefully I can learn to post pictures by the time it is done I am technically challenged.

I like the idea but agree that you need two woods whose grains don't clash. The part painted/part stained look is something we thought about too. Our kitchen currently has an L-shaped set of cabinets along the back wall (the sink wall), and then on the wall opposite the small leg of the L, there's a door to outside, then our range, then a peninsula. So we were talking about making the L-shaped cabinets white with soapstone, and the peninsula quarter-sawn oak with soapstone. Both sets of cabinets would be Mission style. We've kind of put this idea aside because now we're talking about turning that door into a window and running lower cabinets along that wall, so the cabinets would come up to the range on both sides, and we thought it might look weird for there to be white cabinets on the right of it and oak ones on the left. But I don't know, maybe it would look okay. What do you folks think? Have you ever seen a kitchen where two different cabinet colors were separated by a range?
