Jack La Lanne Power Juicer?

Anyone have a Jack La Lanne Power Juicer? Or does anyone know of someone that has one? They advertise that you can juice an orange or apple without cutting it or pealing it. Anyone know?

The skins of fruits are supposedly the best part for you aren't they? All the high concentrations of vitamins and anti-oxidants etc... Thought I read that somewhere...so we got one.
The juicer we had (don't remember what kind it was but not Jack's) was great! I loved the fresh apple and carrot juices! One thing though, is that for a full glass of fresh anything we needed a lot of that anything :-)

I think the skins are good for you too. I am going to get my old juicer out of storage ( It is not a jack la lanne either)I think I need to drink more juices..especially carrot.
Do you still make juices? Where do you live?

The difference is that apple cider is just that, apples smashed and then pressed to extract all their juices. It's a sweet drink. Vinegar has gone through several chemical changes, first you ferment the cider from the apples, just like you are making beer or wine. Then a "mother" is introduced. There is no good way to describe a mother. If you have ever had a batch of vinegar sit around and get a nasty looking snotty mass in it, then you have seen a mother. The mother eats the sugars and converts them to acid. Fresh cider is sweet, then after fermenting it contains alcohol (like beer or wine) and then the mother converts the whole thing to vinegar. Air is what vinegar needs. Beer and wine are sealed to keep out air, but for vinegar to happen you need air, so you usually make it in a wooden barrel or a container larger than you need. The only downfall with making your own vinegar is that you never know the percentage of acid. You can use it for cooking but not preserving. So you can make salad dressing but not pickles, just because you can't be sure that it is strong enough to keep bacteria from growing. If you search the web you will find directions of making vinegar, even buying a mother. I am just now getting into making my own wine etc, so I have only read about the process. Good Luck!! Tami

Must also chime in, as the Villaware/Roma surpasses any other method of extracting juice and pulp from berries and tomatoes. With this food strainer, you need to use the smaller holes berry screen as the strainer that comes with the machine is useeful for larger seeds like that of a tomato. Not only do they rmeove seeds from berries, but also remove the skins and seeds from tomatoes. Its an invaluable tool for anyone wanting seedless preserves and sauces with no annoying seeds and skins. Some prefer the Foley, but if you were to consider the outpout speed of the Villaware, it can 'crank' out at least three times more liquid in the same time compared to a Foley. Also, a Foley would not handle tomatoes very well as they need to be blanched or cut up well to get them under the pressure paddle. About the only seeds a Villware can't handle well are the tiny ones in blueberries, but these are not as annoying to most people. With the Villware, you can also run the waste through a second time to remove even more of the juices and pulp. Forget regular strainers and jelly bags, as they are just too slow.

Summerfan, SWMBO is a goddess-like leader of a fictional primitive tribe in the 19th century novel She. It stands for She Who Must Be Obeyed, which was more recently popularized by the fictional character Rumpole of the Bailey, who called his formidable wife that (pronounced "Swimbo"), behind her back. John, similarly, refers to his wife that way, though, from what he says, she sounds rather nice. :) Melaska, thanks for the great link. I love reading odd stuff like that! And that being the case, maybe the best compromise is the crank style one after all. There's repetitive motion, but not really elbow grease. Lascatx, that's the kind of juice press I bought for pressing the excess water out of spinach for strata!

Jasdip, I don't think I'd juice limp, woody carrots. In fact, I can't think of one thing limp, woody carrots would be good for. LOL I ran across the following in a juicer review on Amazon. Someone asked her what she does with the pulp. I'm a lentil lover, and this sounds very good to me: We (family of four) use the pulp in one of our all-time favorite meals, which we call "whatever burgers" (they are essentially veggie burgers)... we're big lentil eaters, so we take the pulp, any leftover lentils from a day or two before (or if we are really craving whatever burgers, we'll make lentils especially- most kinds work well, and canned is also fine), a few handfuls of rolled oats to bind everything, a chopped yellow onion or two for flavor, sometimes some grated ginger, a sprinkling of salt, some chopped cilantro/coriander, a chopped green chile pepper, and some dry spices (usually Indian spices- garam masala, amchur)... mix it all together, add oats until it all comes together, and saute / very lightly pan-fry in olive oil (I usually just put enough olive oil down to coat the pan, and then again before flipping). These little burgers are so healthy, addictive, and have been a hit with everyone we've served them to! Plus- great way to get the fiber we miss by juicing. (We use a mix of veggie/fruit pulp- our standard juice is kale/greens+a small apple+half a lemon+a small chunk of ginger... sometimes carrots or celery make their way in there. No one minds finding the occasional apple peel in their whatever burgers- it's all part of the whatever!

Hi Betty, Sorry it took so long to respond...where does the time go? I'm up the coast in MA. I've been sort of lazy lately ;-) about being healthy. Made a vow though to get back to it and take better all over care of myself and family.
Did you get your juicer out and start? Does the juicer work well for you?

I did not buy the juicer. It looked so easy and I thought about the skins being used would be great...if that happens. It just looked so easy to use <:->But I already have a juicer called "Champion" and I am using it. Jack's just sounded so easy. I wondered if anyone had one.

We have a vita-mix.I too saw the La lanne and wondered if it was all that.I got to preview it's capabilities at a clients house.Jack's machine seperates much of the pulp out of the juice.They have muffin and bread recipes for the ambitious.Our vita-mix won't take an apple whole.I find I have to quarter everything,but the finished drink has all the pulp in it.I like to bake but it's just too hot in Florida to commit to making high fiber bread products year round,so I think I can live with the blender we chose.BTW,mine is easier to clean than the Lalanne model.Sandy

I did not buy one either....smile!
I have another kind...called the Champion juicer. I love it it takes all the pulp out. It is not really hard to clean, but I just rinse the parts in warm water and it is OK. I have to cut an apple in half, but it takes all the peel and seeds out. I mostly use it for carrot juice. I use the pulp for muffins and Carrot Cake.

I just got the Jack Lalanne Power Juicer. I used it and it's very easy to use. The juice was very good. I used orange, kiwi, apples, and pineapple.
I got the juicer free from someone who did not use it...too much clean up. I downloaded the instruction manual and ordered the recipe book. I'm looking forward to using it more. I've seen it advertised on tv for $100. I think it is worth the price.

Jack La Lanne is perfect if you wish to make fresh fruit juice. And, yes, you can put in large chunks of fruit..even without cutting it..

Jack La Lanne is good juices to the max but i bought another one cause the plug sparked one time i was juicing, so i didn't had a chance to have it repaired as it was old already so we bought lifesring juicer and we're happy about it, same speed and durability as jack la lanne... easy to clean and yields more juice.
