Comments (10)Well, I did contact the Coca Cola Company, and here is their response: Thank you for contacting The Coca-Cola Company. We appreciate the opportunity to respond. The inks on our cartons are water-based and are 50% water. Additionally, they are soluble. Due to this fact, we see no reason why you could not compost the carton in a garden. If you have any additional comments, please feel free to contact us again. Lesley Industry and Consumer Affairs The Coca-Cola Company My personal decision is to compost them. I am in love with the idea of putting them to use at my own house. Like I said, I have a lot of these cartons. My husband "drinks" Coca Cola all of the time. ("Drinks" means that he pops open the can, forgets where he leaves it, pops open another can, etc, etc., then I pour the rest in the drain, and recycle the can.) The carton itself says that is it recyclable, which I do all the time the conventional way. The other factor in my decision is the fact that I have been exposed to pesticides all of my life, more than I like to think about. A little water-based soluble ink in my compost is fine with me. My way of life is gearing more and more toward Simple Organic Living (http://www.voiceyourself.com). For right now I am happy with that. Thank you for all of your responses. Comments (34)Regarding the herbal teas: I am a big fan of Celestial Seasonings -- Red Zinger, Mixed Berry Zinger. I make "refrigerator iced tea" -- just put a few packets in a plastic jug, add cold water, pop in the fridge and wait a few hours. Delish; no need to add Splenda or whatever. Last time I stocked up on them when they were on sale at the grocery store, the clerk probably thought I was reselling them on the black market or something! My other non-soda beverage of choice is cold water with something I've mentioned on a post here about favorite finds: True Lime, crystallized lime (they're the consistency of granulated sugar). Love that stuff....See MoreCoke - Coca-cola
Comments (2)What if you got a ceiling lamp with a big barrel shade and put a coke themed picture on it, like on this desk lamp. (see link below) There are also places that tell you how to make your own ceiling lamps that you could then add the coke theme to, such as by cutting the bottom off a coke bottle and having that be the "stem" of the lamp that comes down from the ceiling. Goo d luck. I hope you post a pic when you have done it. Kathy Here is a link that might be useful: Coca cola desk lamp...See MoreReal sugar Coca Cola
Comments (19)Slightly OT, but you can thank our elected officials for this mess. The sugar lobby woos politicians with $$$ to make sure that sugar prices stay high in the USA, much higher than the world market price of sugar; that's to protect the interests of sugar cane producers in Florida and Louisiana and beet sugar producers in the Midwest. If sugar tariffs were not in place, there would be little economic incentive to use HFCS. So the policies of our government protect a few thousand jobs in sugar production, while at the same time making it more expensive for those companies that utilize sugar in their production: soda companies, candy companies. Life Savers, Brach's and Ferrara Pan moved their production from the USA to Canada some years ago because the price of sugar was so much less there--causing a loss of several thousand jobs in candy production. The take home lesson is that when the government makes economic decisions, it does so for political reasons first and foremost. Does anyone believe that ethanol would be subsidized as a fuel if it wasn't for the fact that Iowa is the first state to hold presidential caucuses? And I can't wait to see what new models GM and Chrysler have to offer...poiitically designed cars...whoopee...:)...See Morevwhippiechick
