Martini party

It is my hubby's birthday next weekend and I am having a martini party for him. There will be about 12 people coming and since most of them don't drink martinis, we are making up cards with recipes on them for "fun" martinis. We will do choc. raspberry ones, tropical sunset, etc.

I need ideas for decorations and snacks. Also, would it be "cheap" to have the plastic glasses or do I have to spring for the glass ones? I just don't know where I would store 12 glass martini glasses.

Any help would be most appreciated! TIA

Buy 12 cheap but glass martini glasses.....and tie a ribbon with a name tag on each one and call them favors for your guests if you don't want to store them.
Be sure to have the proper "olives" for your fancy 'tinis...like whole raspberries on a tooth pick and a twist of lemon rind and orange rind...If you are making apple-tinis have wedges of granny smith apples, coffee beans are good in chocolate 'tinis as are hazlenuts.
Snacks....apple wedges with brie, jalapeno jelly over cream cheese. If you want recipes for hors d'ouvres, run over to the recipe exchange and post a request there.

Thank you Willy, Sylvia, and Cheryl for having us over for a get together. It was wonderful to meet you and the others. It's always fun to be with other fellow gardeners. However, I was expecting to see Marcia and Felix---perhaps next time. I know you both feel badly about missing out. Willy ~ If I gave you too much fresh squeezed orange juice, it does freeze well. I figured that you would like the calamondin marmalade. Can't buy anything like that! You have also inspired me to grow borage. That was a very attractive plant. Tom---Would you like for me to send you any more 'Ice Punch' poinsettia cuttings? or I could root some more? I started the squash seeds today that you shared with me. Can't wait to see how they taste. For those of you that I gave banana plants to the variety name is: Klu Nam Wa. Considered a semi-dwarf. I've posted pictures of them and they are not small. I guess the next adventure time will be next month for the ECHO gardening event that Ill-Man posted. Perhaps more of us will get to meet then. Christine

congratulations, Stacy, and enjoy your anniversary. It was worth it all, wasn't it? The storm, the hives, the hospital, everything... Elery will be here tonight, so I don't know what I'm doing tomorrow. The oven repairman just came and fixed the oven but I can happily say that I know how to bake brownies in an electric roaster and it works very well. (grin) Sunday is the farm, I'll have to check on stepmom. She was in the hospital and they put her on dialysis treatments for 6 weeks, then they'll take her off and see if her kidneys will work better after a "rest". Anyway, I called the hospital (she can't call out, long distance) and got no answer Wednesday night. I called Thursday, and got a stranger who said they'd been in that room since morning. I called the farm and found the phone had been disconnected, so I'm assuming my sister didn't pay the bill. So, I figure if anything serious was happening, someone would call me, otherwise, I'll see 'em all on Sunday! Annie

I am so "on the cusp" it's hard for me to keep from calling vodka based drinks served in martini glasses "martinis", but totally get that gin is the only martini. Here's my favorite vodka based "martini" drink. What else can this generation call drinks that are made in that style (pure to almost pure liquor/served in a martini glass)???! Godiva Chocolate Martini recipe 1 1/2 shots GodivaÂ® chocolate liqueur 1 1/2 shots creme de cacao 1/2 shot vodka 2 1/2 shots half-and-half Dip a glass in liquid (your choice, 1/2 and 1/2, vodka, chocolate liqueur...). Rim the glass with powdered chocolate drink mix (I know, I know, but it looks so pretty :). Swirl a glass with chocolate syrup. Add all liquid ingredients in a shaker along with ice. Pour into glass and garnish with either a cherry or a coffee bean. The coffee bean is more traditional, but cherries are becoming more widely seen. Very ultra decadent. -Robin

What a deal, May! I got a deal on some recently, but not near as good a price as that! Here's what I did with mine. These are delicious and much easier than I expected them to be. I didn't make the compote, instead I melted some blackberry preserves and added a handful of fresh berries. Blackberry Buttermilk Panna Cottas with Blackberry Compote For panna cottas 3/4 lb blackberries (about 3 cups) 1 1/4 cups well-shaken buttermilk 2 3/4 teaspoons unflavored gelatin (from two 1/4-oz envelopes) 1/4 cup water 1 1/2 cups heavy cream 2/3 cup sugar 2 tablespoons blackberry syrup, store-bought or homemade (see cooks' note, below) For compote 1/2 cup water 1/2 cup crÃ¨me de cassis 2 tablespoons sugar 1 1/2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice 1/2 lb blackberries (about 2 cups) Special equipment: 6 (6-oz) molds (preferably nonreactive) Make panna cottas: PurÃ©e blackberries with buttermilk in a blender until very smooth, then pour through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl, pressing on and then discarding solids. Sprinkle gelatin over water in a small bowl and let stand 1 minute to soften. While gelatin softens, heat cream and sugar in a saucepan over moderate heat until hot, stirring until sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and add gelatin mixture, stirring until dissolved. A couple of years ago, as an auction item at my son's school, we hosted a Martini Party. It was such fun! We had a menu of 15 martini's. Most martinis can be made with the same ingrediants. We named the martini's after the people that hosted the party. Make a run to your local bookstore and get a martini book. There are many ideas for you to choose from.
For decorations we had the huge glass martini shaped glasses filled with floating flowers or candles. For the cocktail napkins, paper napkins with an olive on them, found at a closeout party supply store.
I would opt for the martini glasses in glass. My experience with the plastic ones are that the bottom falls off and then your guest can't put their glass down because of instability.
Food-Finger foods and sandwiches.
For some reason figs,fruit and cheese went over very well. Stuffed bread bowls with dip.

At one party I went to....they had a Martini bar...and a mashed potato bar. Mashed potatoes with different toppings served in martini glasses....It was at a hotel...so the number of glasses needed wasn't a problem!
