Keeping rabbit's water from freezing
Comments (3)All I did when it got below freezing was to have 3 sets of water bottles for each cage. When I went out, I'd take fresh bottles with tepid water, and switch out the bottles. Take the frozen ones inside to thaw. How cold it got determined how many times I'd have to switch the bottles. If it wasn't much below freezing, just switch once in the morning because the bottles wouldn't freeze during the day (my rabbits had shelter) If it got down to 50 below, every couple of hours. It wouldn't take the bottles long to freeze, but if the rabbits got all they wanted to drink at least every other hour, they were getting enough. You an also put heat lamps near the hutch and if they are close to the water bottles, the water won't freeze....See Moreoh... from bad to worse... hard freeze now expected
Comments (64)yup, thats a mango seedling treefrog, thanks. Im in the smack center of CA in Fresno. I live in the central valley where we get LONG dry summers (typically above 110 degrees) and cool, short, wet winters (Dec and half of Jan). So far, we've had a couple of frosty mornings, but nothing to hard to protect any plants. There is only a bit of damage to dypsis lutescens, majesty palm, hibiscus and bouganvillea. Temperatures begin to rise quickly begining this first week of January so there is minimal danger for any more damage than what is shown in the pics above....See MoreTap water, bottled water, rain water
Comments (20)It is so nice and useful to read all the information and experiences of our forum members here. I never thought seriously about the water I use for germination, normally I used tap water. Once I used distilled water for spray the plants because the tap water spray make the leaves so ugly. When the water dried all the leaves have whitish residues from the water probably the lime/chalk. When the tap water is dried always chalk/lime built up on the surface. So we have vinegar plus solution for regular cleaning. One of my friends apartment's tap water is pretty bad when he boils it the water lost its color, it looks like water with milk. I hate this chalky water. However, I do not know this hard water is good for the plant. Caelian...See Morecold feet/hot water bottle?
Comments (19)I have been meaning to tell everyone about the things I wear on my feet since December to keep them warm. Now I can! Foot Duvets! My best kept secret! I had never heard of them but my sister for my birthday in October gave me a pair of foot duvets. She got them at Restoration Hardware in St. Louis but I think they have locations elsewhere or you can also shop online. These things are like slippers but look like blimps. LOL They aren't for walking around but for wearing in bed or while sitting. They don't have any support in them. They are the softest, nicest things I have ever put on my feet. They are down filled and the insides are sooo soft. I have Raynaud's Syndrome and if I don't have something on me feet in the winter I have incredible pain in my feet. I used to wear small anklets all the time but found them too binding and would kick them off during the night only to have to get up and put them back on when my feet get cold. Doesn't help that my bedroom is the coldest room in the house and my bed is situated against 2 outside walls. These foot duvets are so light that you aren't even aware you have them on your feet. Your feet stay warm but don't overheat. They are light as feathers - no kidding! I can't wait to get into bed so I can put them on my feet! I even plan to wear them in the summer because my feet still get cold even then. I wish they made them for hands because I sometimes I have to wear mittens to bed to keep my hands warm so I won't be in pain. They are very roomy and large. I don't think they cost very much or my sister wouldn't have purchased them for me. Wonderful things for keeping feet warm and would be great for the elderly. I wish I had these for my Mom when she went into the hospital because they kept her socks on and she got her first bed sore on the heel of her foot. These would have prevented that. Give them a try if you can find them. Your son's cold feet will love you for it. Anne...See Morecoverlet
