Refrigerated red merlot from wedding (2004 - bottle date is 1999)

Has refrigerating this bottle of merlot ruined it??

My wife and I are clearly not wine drinkers, so we refrigerated this bottle along with several other bottles of wine (other varieties) just because we thought we'd use them eventually...

So again, have we ruined the merlot (and probably the others)?

Thanks!

Also, I read that someone said instead of drinking it use it in a food recipe. If it is ruined drinking wise, can it be used in food and taste fine?

Red wines are typically consumed at room temperature. Some whites and most rose zins are usually chilled. All wines should be stored in a cool place on their sides with the cork end slightly down to prevent the cork from drying out. Those wines which are chilled will do quite nicely chilled an hour before drinking.

Concerning cooking with wine, you only use a wine that you would also enjoy drinking. Inexpensive wine is one thing. Bad wine is quite another.

If the bottles had been opened, they would not be fit even for marinating meat. If they have not been opened, they should be fine.
All chemical reaction happens more slowly at cold temperatures and that includes the reaction that happens when wine goes bad.
Refrigerating the wine hasn't ruined it on the contrary it has slowed the "ruining" of the wine.
Open it and see what it tastes like.
