Gevalia accepted my cancellation this morning but left open the option to buy coffee. We drink coffee every day. Always in the morning and nearly always in the afternoon. It's been awhile since I had a quality maker. It's too bad I'm not interested in Gevalia's coffee but I'm not. The company must sell enough coffee to justify giving away the pots. Glenda, since you kids gave you a membership in addition to the pot, you'll have to let us know how you like the coffee you'll be receiving in the next year. According to Gevalia's brochures there are coffees' for every season plus special blends. This is the model I got: My only disappointment, and you really can't call it a disappointment...lol...is I was to receive travel mugs but got cups instead. Very very nice cups, I must add; ones that will be well used. All of our travel mugs are junk...the lids leak if we can find them at all...they don't fit the cup holders in our vehicles, etc. etc. A new set would be useful. But oh well. I'm not about to look a gift horse in the mouth! I don't care how old he is! Lori

I'm with you Miz, except I use the Melitta cone, because it's just so easy and unbreakable, like when I knock it off the cup before I've had my coffee. For one cup, it is the easiest, low tech way to get a delicious cup of real coffee. I didn't watch the video, but I do wet the grounds and let them swell (for about 15 seconds or less) then pour the rest of the water over them. I have a cup of the best coffee possible in less than a minute (not counting the heating time in my electric water pot, which might be 2 minutes or so). Nothing to clean, the filter and organic coffee grounds go into the compost (I buy unbleached filters). If I am making a whole pot in a thermos carafe for guests, I do wash the grounds off the sides of the filter (a larger one I use for that) a time or two, after the initial wetting. Then I discard the grounds and fill the rest of the carafe with hot water and shake it up to make sure the plain hot water isn't sitting on top of the stronger coffee below. Everyone raves about the coffee served here. We are a very "good" coffee appreciative community. I don't know anyone with a Keurig or electric coffee maker. We all make it with a cone. I have no problem being called a coffee snob. Unless I can have good coffee, I'd rather not have any.

I've had one of those that I got free many years ago. We didn't use it much except when we had company..the coffee pot was a carafe...Just a few days before Christmas when I made tea I poured it in the coffee pot...it sat like that for about 10 mins then all of a sudden it popped. I noticed an add that they have now...it is stainless, comes with a thermos and a travel coffee cup...and two packages of coffee...for 22 dollars I've been thinking about doing that again... I bought myself a new carafe for Christmas. patti

I would say that for his needs, a Keurig is the way to go. I just don't think they are right for everyone unless you don't care about a budget. But for your son, that would definitely be the way to go. I'd go with the one cup but that has 3 cup size settings so he can decide how strong to make his cup. I'd go with Keurig just because of the availability of the pods. For someone like me and many people that goes through a pot a day between my husband and I...it just would not be practical at all. Coffee is already through the roof $$$!
