I think I'm at the right place. My friend is getting married in a week and they want to have some jello shots at the reception. The place they are having the reception at quoted them a price of about $75 to make the jello shots with the cost of the alcohol being $50! Or they told my friend she could make her own for less.

She has decided to make her own. However, she's been given different info in regards to how long they will last. The lady at the reception hall said that she can make them now and take them in as she goes and others told her that you shouldn't keep them around for a week or they won't be as good. Any advice? I can't find anything in searches that has really helped!

If she keeps them covered and refrigerated they should easily keep 4 to 5 days, without the alcohol evaporating nor the jello molding.
$50 for the alcohol? How many will she be making!?

Jannie, Thanks for your input :) It was very helpful! LOL The wedding was two months ago and honestly it doesn't matter if you think it's tacky or not! This was a second wedding for both of my friends and it wasn't some big, fancy affair. It was mostly for a few close friends and family members and where we live, big fancy weddings are just not common. I guess you may find them tacky but to each his own!

I am the queen of anti tacky! And I think Jello shots sound like fun. I can picture those little clear plastic "communion cups" with a rainbow of colors, stacked on a pyramid of footed glass cake plates topped with a glass candlestick and a candle with ribbon streamers cascading down.
Jello shots are only tacky if people get drunk....and I have seen lots of people blotto on Dom Perignon.

It should definately be around 3-4 days. Then it depends on jello shot recipe as some ingredients (jelly itself) can melt and loose its consistence.

50$ is too much, really :) And it is is real fun to do it yourself :)
