Question re: bourbon

Can whiskey be substituted for bourbon in a punch recipe without a major problem? I'm not familiar with what bourbon tastes like so I'd also appreciate if anyone could describe it for me. Thanks!

Depends on what kind of whiskey. Scotch whiskey would not be good in my opinion, but something like a blended whiskey....like Black Velvet....or Seagrams 7 would be fine....might even be a little more mellow.
