False Eyelashes

I've been toying with the idea of wearing false eyelashes to an upcoming holiday party. Has anyone here used them? Are they easy to apply? Do they stay on well? Thanks!

I've tried on false eyelashes, they always seem to get glued to my own lashes, and that's very uncomfortable. I don't like them at all!

it depends on how dextrous you are, really -

if you have trouble with liquid eyeliner, you're gonna have a heck of a time with the adhesive...better if you have someone to do 'for' you.

I've found that the little lash clusters are easier to deal with than even the self-adhesive 'strip-o-lashes' because they don't want to sit close 'enough' to my lash line.

and an old lip liner brush is the best thing to apply the adhesive with - you can do it straight from the tube, but it takes some practice.

UPDATE: I had it done! Brows and lashes. No irritation. At first the brows seemed a little dark and thick. She didn't just wipe the color on but used a brush and seemed to paint each hair. She also said she put dye in spots where hair was missing. Today I had them sugared and they look really great! Several people said I really look younger. I demand honest opinions from my friends and family so I do believe I look younger, LOL. The lashes look good but it wasn't the dramatic difference I was hoping for. I guess my lashes are not as long as I thought. They do look good with mascara. I'm still getting used to the look as my eyes look different now. On to makeup. Someone I know who is a rep for a makeup line is going to come over and give me and my friend make up tips. We are late 40ish and want to make sure we are keeping current while looking the best for our age. We are very worried about not looking like our daughters (both 18). We see too many women are age dressing like their daughters. I even cut my very long hair when I realized my hair was just like my daughters. I saw a picture of the back of a women and she looked like 16 from the back. Then you looked at the front and she looked 60. I did not want that so while I still have longish hair the style now is more fitting. Even my 84yr old mom, who doesn't wear makeup complains that her friends still wear their makeup the same way they did when they were 20. If this is a midlife crises, I am enjoying every minute! and so is hubby as he has started noticing some of the upgrades, ; )

Smhinnb, maybe that's what I did wrong-I didn't comb them out after getting wet because mine looked good for about a week and then got clumpy and didn't last very long. I also wasn't told to use oil free products. I never made it to the "fill" stage because they started bugging me-especially after my own eyelashes were growing-some of the extensions were growing too, which made then too long, so I had to eventually pull them off, which left me with hardly any of my own lashes. They also started sticking straight out very stiff-like they lost their curl. I did buy a tool to curl them (since you can't use regular eyelash curlers) but couldn't get it to work properly. But, it doesn't sound like I took care of them correctly. I have done Latisse for a couple of years now and love it. I have baby blue grayish eyes and and have never had any side effects. Also, I was told that you use half dose of what was recommended to use on (tiny) bottle and it worked wonderfully, so lasted a lot longer. eta: addt'l info

Jojoco, your eyebrows look so good. Such a subtle change p, but it really is an improvement and opens up your eyes. Well done! Love the 'before' photo too. I haven't written until now, but will also weigh in again o. The wedding makeup. I still think you should go for a little mascara, light lipstick, and a foundation that will just smooth the color in the skin. And a tiny bit of blush. You can see in the 2 photos how lighting can make a difference. I wouldn't do the airbrush look either. DD had her makeup & hair done in Savannah by People totally unknown, but recommended to her and she ended up very pleased. She told them nothing heavy handed, and she did have false eyelashes, but she looked great.

I think you are asking the essential question, Ida: WHY do we do this, WHY do we think we look "better"? I used to think how I looked wasn't up to some "standard" - it was really a cultural standard, pushed (and pushed and pushed) by those standing to gain from our insecurities and separating us from our $$$. I think this could go into a very deep discussion of feminist issues, but this probably isn't the place for that. Like why does our culture keep trying to make women feeling insecure, things like why a beauty standard for shoes (high heels), renders women pretty much incapable of fleeing, if needed, as well as ruining their feet - modern day foot binding - for the sake of "shapely calves!! It really makes me sad to think that from the time we are little girls, people are commenting/criticizing our appearance. And that we let some baffoon of a boy (because of his own insecurities) claim power over us by insulting us. Why should we even CARE what he thinks or says? My response (sometimes verbal, sometimes internal): tell it to someone who cares what you think. I also think about what women could do with their time, energy, money and more if the obsession over looks and behavior were eliminated. Sometimes the sheer number of threads here asking about or commenting about methods or products that women discuss which are focused on our looks kind of boggles me. I've stopped commenting on them because I can't ever contribute anything but a plea to think about why we are obsessing over these things. We can, and do have many more interesting things to focus on and share as women.

I just bought the individual lash clusters. They are pretty easy. I just saw something about them on not applying them to the outside but rather the middle. I might try that look instead. When I tried them the first time, I did chicken out and trimmed them a bit so my lashes looked more full than long.

I use them when I perform on stage - but what I hate is the gunk it leaves on your eyelids when you're done with them - tough to clean off.

I've tried them a long while ago. It takes a little practice to do them yourself. I think if you just curl your lashes a bit with a warmed up lash curler and then mascara is almost as effective, quicker and easier to clean up and not so artificial looking. Better costlier option is individual lashes applied to your own, last longer and look more natural.

I wore false eyelashes with rhinestones for a Halloween costume. I thought they were easy to apply, and my regular eye makeup remover easily removed the glue. They stayed on perfectly from 7pm to 4 am (good party!). It felt a little odd wearing them at first, but I forgot all about them in a couple of hours until someone mentioned them. I wore them to 2 holiday parties too; really glammed up the outfit!

false eyelashes: get the cluster ones or the individual ones. use tweezers and put a dab of lash glue on your left hand. pick up lashes with tweezers, dip into lash glue on very edge and nestle lashes into your lashline, on your real lashes. continue on from middle to both sides. let it set up, then dip a lash liner brush into dark power liner or shadow and make a think line over the lashes, careful to cover any glue that might be showing.

they make an eyelash remover, but you can also use warm water and let them fall off in the shower. definitely don't leave them on overnight (I have and it hurts).
