Has anyone ever used one of these dermabrasion systems, I was looking at buying the Neutrogena one that they advertise.

How often can you use it and DOES it work??

Hi there. I bought the Neutrogena, but am pretty disappointed with it. The cream smells terrible, and is hard to rinse off. They recommend to use it gradually. I started with once a week and then moved to 2 and then 3 time a week. I haven't seen smoother skin, and have since discontinued use. I would recommend to go to Sharper Image... they have a kit there that has different heads, and that actually spins around. I think that would be more effective for buffing... like a car polisher! This one just vibrates, and I don't think it is useful. My stylist said to stay away from Microderm abrasion, and to only use the Glycolic (not sure that's the proper name or spelling) acid treatment that she provides for 50 bucks a pop. I think a $126.00 bill is quite enough already thank you very much! I did get it one time and it nearly burned my face off. She is 57 and looks 25, so there may be something to that! Good luck with whatever you do!

You can pretty much get the same results of microdermabrasion with a big $5 jar of St.Ives apricot scrub. For peeling, MD Forte Facial Cream III, for about $40 a jar, has 30% glycolic acid. That's as much as a light salon peel and the jar will last for months.

Or, do a search for recipes for homemade skin care creams and you'll discover that your fridge and pantry are full of good stuff for your skin, like lemons, grapes, milk, honey, olive oil, vitamin e, and the list goes on.

No amount of peeling will make a 57 year old look 25. I'd bet she's had a face lift or two.

@booty bums See here to respond to the questions you bring up. @Seabornman That's exactly true here, too (another NE state) on the solar. Just so folks who aren't familiar understand how this works. It's called "net metering". I live in one of the darkest states in the country, but the sunnier months produce excess electricity. This goes on the grid, and I get credits for it that I use in the winter. As I mentioned, I have NO heat bill. I actually have no electric bill year round. My house is all-electric. This also means the electric company doesn't have to buy (expensive) electricity; instead, it can use the excess electricity coming from folks' solar panels. This keeps prices down for everyone on the grid. IMO Most anyone with a home would want to check to see if there's net metering in their state. You might pay off solar panels way faster than you think. For instance, are you paying $500/month for heating or cooling as many people do around here? Also, if you can't do solar panels (maybe your house is in the shade), in some states there's community solar. You buy into it. The panels around here are in old meadows and landfills, generally out of sight. I'm guessing excess energy from any alternative source could be uploaded to the grid. I had thought of using a windmill in winter! But I'm not sure how my electric company handles this. IMO every state should have the net metering option or get them legislated ASAP. Soon solar (or another alternative energy source) will be essential for selling a house. ****** Incidentally, my state also audits the "tightness" in your home. There are extra incentives that go along with this. ***** Footnote: while the netZero set up in my home might sound complex, it's actually very simple. Just clever. Basically: 10" thick walls, energy-saving materials like double-paned windows, solar, shed roof, CERV, heat pump. Habitat for Humanity is building houses like this around here; it is LESS EXPENSIVE than what they otherwise build.

I had a house fire during the winter of 1992 with the furnace running. Pulled out the fairly new furnace and stored it in a detached garage for a few years before installing it IN the same garage. It ran until 2017, but it always stunk. Cleaning did nothing because the smoke odors embed into the paint of the furnace. When I replaced the furnace the old one smelled like it did in 1992. They can clean it but will always smell of smoke. The smoke can cause circuit bridging on the circuit boards long after the fire as the chemicals in the smoke continue to eat away. Many types of acids are produced because of the fire and they will continue to eat and pit away at the electronics and wiring including the blower motor windings. Seriously, how can they clean some of this stuff? They can't and it will still smell with potential of early failure.

What needs to be treated in the water? Without seeing your water analysis, you won't get meaningful answers here. If you choose to list the problem aspects of the water do note if it's municipal or well water and where you live. A whole house system is generally installed to treat systemic issues like pH, hardness, high iron, etc. These would usually have media filled tanks that automatically regenerate and are serviced annually (maybe more often) to replace minerals and examine components. Under sink systems are usually for just drinking water. RO wastes a LOT of water for each gallon produced and is not done 'whole house'. If your incoming water is pretty bad and you don't have significant pre-filtration, your RO membrane will be really taxed. I have the iSpring PH100 RO system which claims the lowest waste water without using a permeate pump. It was a DIY. Filters are reasonably priced and it has a remineralization filter for taste. Also have a whole house neutralizer to address low pH.

I too have tried Philosophy and thought it worked very well. Left my skin feeling very soft and smooth.

Try the aspirin treatment. I also bought the Neutrogena kit, it works pretty good (I use it more like a scubber) but the aspirin mask one works just as well. Too bad I forgot about it when I bought my kit. As long as you have no aversion to aspirin (I use no name $3 for 200 tabs) crush 3-4 aspirins in a spoon add a little water to form a paste and scrub you face for a minute or so and then let it sit. Really good for oily skin.

Physician's Formula mineral microdermabrasion is good and relatively inexpensive.

When I retired, a friend recommended the beauty school close to my home. This is a great place to go for facials at a fraction of the price, and you get an entire hour of pampering! The students are excellent and overseen by expert supervisors.
