Bev, 'Sea Octopus' has decent substance, but I think there's little that'll deter a determined rabbit. You're right, it's not a variety you see very often, I got mine in a local trade and while initially it was not what I'd expected/hoped for, it has certainly become a favourite because of the shape and vigour. It's a ready bloomer with rich purple flowers and it's very fertile. I seem to be at odds with the indicated blooming period from the registration for this cultivar, mine flowers considerably earlier than September, like mid-June, and sees a second flush in September. Given it's heritage, that's unusual and unexpected and perhaps what I have here is not as indicated. Oddly enough, my favourite yellow seedling from it, flowered mid-August last year, so, what's up with that? Take a look at the pix in the HL for this one, you'll see 2 seemingly very different forms, with the narrow-leafed ones from Patty Woodbury and Shauna Cannon being the ones I'd hoped to get, but the registration shows a much wider leaf (12x3) than what shows in those shots, which makes me wonder if those 2 are indeed the variety in question. Some of the smaller ones do (do not even call the big chain type outfits) they have a spray booth and spray equipment that will give you a great smooth finish however the cost will be high unless you do all the prep work yourself and if not prepped correctly the super smooth finish will show every flaw in you prep work. I would probably invest in some new ones or just grab a can of spray paint from the hardware and go at it myself. If you really want a super dursble finish and have lots of spare cash check into the powdercoating process lots of motorcycle shops that do painting work have the perfect setup for small parts like barstools etc.

Wow sorry that happened! Can't help chuckling at the image of a cloud of ashes jetting out of the exhaust port. FYI, you can get filters for most vacs at hardware stores in case you don't have a Sears close by or the price is not to your liking. Note to self, check that the filter is in place before cranking up the vac. :-] Regarding all the discussion earlier in the thread about outer sleeves: they not only prevent lots of water from getting into the paper filter, but they act as a prefilter for coarse particles. Looks like no one responded to deke4 back in 2014 about the vac that ran but didn't suck. In case anyone else has this problem: I'd be checking in the inlet and outlet (with it unplugged) as far as you can see in to make sure it's not clogged. Failing that, the linkage between motor shaft and impeller may be shot, but you'd have to take some screws out of the motor assembly to see that. Another thing to check is if it has one of those float balls discussed earlier, possibly under the filter, if it's stuck in the "full" position it may shut off the vacuum without shutting off the motor. Pull off the filter and make sure that thing moves freely if your unit has one.
