| I once again return to this forum because I need some help in buying a winter coat for the cold Chicago winter.
I already have a wool peacoat I have from the Navy (20 years old now!), but I need a ski jacket or waterproof/windproof jacket that I can wear for winter actvities. I don't mind spending a little extra if the coat is truly warm, but I don't want to spend over $100 to find that out. What materials really contribute to the coat's warmth and wind resistance? Also, please let me know if any of you have such a jacket and what brand it is.. Thanks in advance! This website is the best when you need some good advice |

| Why don't you go to LL Bean or Lands End websites. They have pretty good winter stuff. |
|
| Keep an eye on the end-of-season sales at the web sites of LL Bean, Lands' End, and Eddie Bauer. Last year, I bought a jacket like that, with a removal fleece liner that I wear all the time when it's not cold enough for the full jacket. It was marked down to $60-something. Yesterday at LL Bean, in their Thursday Mark-down section on the sale page, they offered a similar jacket (tho' not with removable liner) marked down from $160 to about $50-60. Last year, I also bought a black/white herringbone wool, lined, p-coat from them marked way down... it was a steal and fits me perfectly. These sites run sales all year long so keep a close eye on them. |
