I don't even wear sox...until the temp goes below 10. You can still buy "leg paint"...works like magic to hide all the stuff, have really scrub with soap and water to get it off. I remember when stockings came in sizes...I wore an 8 1/2 long. Seamless hose were cheaper than those with seams which were "full fashioned"....shaping at the ankle....so until they invented stretch nylon, sometime about mid to late 50's, seamless hose always bagged at the ankle. Never wore a "corset" to hold them up...wore a garter belt for a while than got "suspants" which were a stretchy under panty with garters attached....but the hose pulled them down. So even though I was about 98 pounds, and 15 I wore a panty girdle, kept the stockings up and didn't slide down. Remember those "window pane heels? And you could get stockings in regular, demi toe and non reinforced heel or barefoot, for wearing with sandals. And the "cheap" girls sometimes work stockings with clocks up the side....or even sequins!! Stockings, although rather expensive were sensible because if you ran one leg the other was still fine...if you always bought the same color. The first panty hose were not stretchy...not VERY stretchy and bagged and were expensive....saved only for special occasions and a short dress. I think the first stretchy panty hose were Leggs. From girdles and garters to bare legs we've come a long way....bring it on! Linda C

Sorry this is happening particularly if these are a favourite. Sometimes the stain darkens with age and then it becomes noticeable. That's happened to me. Still it is very weird that more stains showed up. I have had some success with scrubbing a large dollup of regular Tide laundry detergent into a stained area with my fingernails. I really work it into the stained area. I let it sit for a while. Then wash with the hottest water I can use. Be generous with the liquid laundry detergent as I find that it works better with excess in this case. I usually add an extra rinse. If that doesn't work I would use OxiClean. It is suggested that you soak it for a very long period of time but no longer than 4 hours. It works very slowly. Unlike for regular bleach which only needs a few minutes to work. Any longer than that and the bleach could destroy the fibers. Good luck!

Localeater your feet will thank you if you can get a better fitting shoe. I have found that suddenly I need a half size larger shoe in almost every brand. I find most of my older shoes still fit. I actually live in Queens but find LI often easier to shop in even without a pandemic. Since your brother is in Carle Place and you used to visit you might know Sunken Meadow Park. I hiked there today through the hills and wooded area, then the trails through the salt marsh and finally walked the length of the board walk. I have never seen so much wildlife so close to a very populated area. And best of all my feet feel great.

Jane, try a pair of Rothy's or Cariuma IBI sneakers in the knit fabric. I have a pair of the Rothy's slip ons and was just looking at the Cariuma -- they have them in Pantone colors (including Viva Magenta) as well as some prints. But Rothy's can be machine washed (cold -- too warm can cause them to shrink) and the recycled plastic thread they use shouldn't hold onto dirt even in white. I haven't washed my sneakers yet, but I have washed other Rothy's flats and that's why I decided to get the sneakers - white that should stay white.
