Uneven pierced earring holes

I had my ears pierced about a year ago and at the time thought that they were even- well now I have noticed that one is a tiny bit lower than the other one. What are my options to correct this other than quitting wearing earrings and letting it grow up?

I suppose it depends on how much it bugs you. Everyone has natural asymmetry in one place or another. Can anyone else see the difference without really close, lengthy examination? After a year the holes might not close up, I'm not sure. You could just pierce another hole in the proper place in the one ear and ignore the other hole. It might grow closed in time.

My holes are in the same place but at different trajectories through the earlobes so if I wear hoops they tilt at different angles. I see it but I doubt anyone else does. I've never asked, though.

You could let it close up,and then have it re-pierced.
Of course,I had a similar problem except one of mine was farther away then the other one. So,I have TWO holes in one ear now so it wouldnt look so uneven.

I had double pierced ears in high school but I let the second hole close because my fiance did not like it. We have been married now for over twenty years. On my 35th birthday, four years ago, I got the second hole re-pierced. I wanted to be able to wear my diamond studs on a daily basis, but still have fun matching my earrings to my outfit. I usually only wear studs, if I wear dangling earrings I leave the second hole bare. I figure that now that I am all grown up I can do what I like! I think wearing two studs together looks really pretty. I actually also have a small 3 stone jeweled hoop the I wear with my diamonds, that looks pretty too. If you are younger you can probably do a more dramatic look with hoops or longer earrings. Have fun! If you don't like it, you can always let it close up. Just don't get you upper ear pierce, getting cartilage pierced can cause problems, not to mention that I have heard from friends that it hurts a lot more!

well i guess im a little more willing to do this since i did my dd's when she was 12 weeks old. we have never had a problem with them, she cried more when she had her first needle than when her ears were peirced. as for them falling out the clasps are locking and in all honousty there are so many other things around the house that they can choke on it never crossed my mind. i think they look great on her, she is now 2.5yo and tells people that she has pretty ears. i have been criticized by many and tell them to Mind THERE OWN BUISNESS as my dd probably would want them done when she is a teen anways. also for us it was a cultural thing as im italian and in my family they are done as a babtism gift. so i really get irritated when people are nasty to me about it. anyways its a decision that you have to make if you are not confortable with it don't do it! tell your mil to mind her buisness its your child. if you do decide to have it done enjoy it becuase i think its a cute thing to have done and you shouldn't be made to feel lousy if you do. nadine

No to pierced ears here. But this week, I wish I had. I am trying to find a pair of dangling earrings for my son's wedding next weekend. Clip earrings are very difficult to find to start with but when you have an idea of what you want that makes it impossible! To give you an idea: I am a plus size woman so that cannot be too dainty, but then again I am not a "bold" person either. I do not want hoops. I want them to dangle about 2 inches (cant' be much longer because the neckline on the jacket of the dress has a lot of beading and I don't want tangles. They have to be silvertone and could have clear crystals mixed in. I don't want to look like I am putting on the ritz because to me that would look fake because there is no way we could afford anything like that. I just want them to be dressy but not over the top. So, not that I wanted much, huh? :) When I read this back, it is funny - no wonder I cannot find what I want from the 5-10 pairs that a store might have if they carry clips at all. Maybe I won't even wear any. The beading on my jacket and a necklace may be it. I am wearing a very special piece of black hills silver for my necklace. It is an angel that I wear each and everyday in memory of our daughter. She will be sooooo missed at the wedding. It will be 6 years this July. On some days it still seems like yesterday - she would be 27. However, she will be in our hearts. She would be so happy for her brother and will be watching from heaven I am sure. (Better quit here before the tears come.) Have a happy day!

Thanks all. From what I have now read, most suggest that a needle, and not a gun, should be used. And that indeed the most skilled and hygienic practitioners are those shops that do body piercing (and often tattoos). None other than the ordinary folks at Good Housekeeping give this advice. As for the wisdom of using a certain type of earring (re thickness, sleeping, etc) I will ask again but I was assured that the ones I liked should be fine. And several people above, whether using potatoes or apples or just bringing their own earrings, seem to have used something other than "thick" piercing earrings. I am just going to give her a gift card for the piercing and she can decide from there. The earrings i like are sold singly and are a few hundred dollars each; they are not just for a single use. But I want her to like them so I will let her pick them out. They are for her birthday next month.

I got my first ear piercing 36 years ago. On hole has always been a good 1/8 of an inch higher than the other. It is very obvious to me, especially when I wear earring in my second hole which are even. No one else (other than the lady who did the second piercing) ever appears to have noticed. Chances are no one will notice your hole are not quite even unless you point it out to them!

I just can't believe that I have just now noticed that the holes are uneven. You are right- I seriously doubt anyone else notices or has noticed since it took me a year to figure it out.

I am a jeweler. Customers point things like that out to me all the time. Most of the time they are being overly concerned about differences of a millimeter or 2. (Though I have seen a few that were way off, usually when it was a "sleep-over job" done with a needle...arghh)

When it comes down to it, human faces are seldom completely symmetrical in their natural state. It's common to have one eye a little larger, one brow shaped differently, etc. Is is actually quite common to have the ears and earlobes set at different angles to the face! This is something people don't notice until they try on hoop earrings and see that they are "pointing" in 2 different directions. Then they ask me what's wrong with the earrings!

Odds are no observer notices those things either. The human brain is wired to interpret symmetry even where it is not. It's just another one of those things that others will not notice about you.

As a jeweler, though, I would suggest that you avoid wearing heavy earrings. Much worse than slightly uneven holes are stretched out ones! I have seen many more of those, and that is much more difficult to compensate for. I am always warning my sixteen year old about this. The trend of large hoop earrings has already stretched out many of her friends' earlobes. Heavier earrings can be worn if they are posts and worn with a large disc back to distribute the weight. Earrings that have earwires should be lightweight.

got my daughter pierced 4 day ago andd not happy with position of one of them. the stud it is facing up while the other is facing forward. It bothers me very much, and I was wondering if I should take the stud out, let it heal (close) and get the piercing redone. How long would I have to wait to get it redone? And advise on how I should proceed?
