Anyone ever tried Neutrogena Ultra Sheer dry sunblock?

Has anyone ever tried this new product by Neutrogena called Ultra Sheer Dry sunblock? My friend let me try her sunblock the past two days and it seems to sit nicely under my powder. I was wondering if anyone else has tried this product and what they thought of it. I'm still trying to figure out what lotion to use and have been so confused with all of the products on the market. I'm basically looking for a good moisturizer. I guess I would use this during the day under my make-up and a separate night cream? Anyone know of any good night creams for someone with very oily skin?

very oily skin doesn't need a night cream. thats a hoax to sell you more products.

Don't smoke or drink either. And there's no question that desert is a major food group! :)) I use Olivia Care Olive Oil Soap on my face and in the shower - love the Verbena scent and all those suds! In the winter I don't need moisturizer. I buy it at TJMaxx. For 20 years I've used a Buff Puff on my face. For facial moisturer Jergens Skin Firming Lotion. I've used several others that I really liked, and every time I ran out and went to buy more, they were discontinued or had added obnoxious fragrance. How exasperating! I don't like the strong fragrance in the heavier duty "regenerating" lotions. I find that smiling works best on the Howdy Doody lines - hate those things! Can't bring myself to lay out $20 for a tiny little jar so I guess this is it. Sherry

Growing out ultra short hair

You may be past the point of decision, but I thought I'd chime in just in case. I am also growing out my hair, and I was a hairdresser for twenty years. Growing out is almost always a pain. My suggestion is if you have gone this far, hang in there. You can always cut it later if you decide it isn't what you thought it would be. About style. I've done the short bob thing like you are doing in the past and this time I have been keeping it in long layers as the top grows out. I have found this MUCH easier to deal with that a really short bob, and as soon as I had a little ponytail I started clipping it up. For awhile I flipped it out and now it is long enought to flip or go under. This is in part due to the fact that I look rotten in a short bob and much better with layering. I just want to say I will never have short hair again. I'll be a little old lady with a bun :-) You can get a short look with putting it up especially if you have layers around the front...well, not quite the same, but I love the practicallity of putting it up. About those bangs... A small amount left long and swept to the side is in. No POOFY bangs. I add that because of your age. I am 44 and had "big" hair and it was hard getting away from it :-) All that being said...there are some people that just look great with short hair, and if you are one of them and it makes you happy go for it. I have to say I love feeling more girrly with it a little longer though. Everyone always told me my short hair looked great too, but I like it longer! As far as flattness, some of that may have to do with your style in the past and what you are use to. Kind of like when you stop getting perms! I have found that as my hair grows out I really like using velcro rollers and a heat set spray. After spraying get the velcros really hot with the hairdryer and then let them cool completely. This will give you MUCH more volume and may even be too big at first. You just have to play with the roller size and placement and see what works for you. This works great for me at this point, and lasts all day if I use a little Paul Mitchell Freeze and Shine in it (it holds but you can still run your fingers through it when dry to break up the frozen hair look. Heat sets sprays are different and you may have to experiment with your hair to find the best one for your style. Remember that when you set hair do it in a similar manner that you dry...for example if you hold the hair up in the crown, or pull the top forward set it the same. This will give you the fullness.

Hi Terri - The recipe I use is one tsp. vitamin c crystals, three tsp. water (they say to use distilled but I always forget to buy it and use plain tap water) and one tsp. glycerine. The only thing is, I have a hard time getting the crystals to completely dissolve. I read if you add a drop of vodka, or even rubbing alcohol, that helps the crystals dissolve. I used gin (tanqueray!) and it worked great in dissolving them. There are many variations of this recipe online, with some using a higher ratio of vitamin c and others using a lower ratio, so I think you can really play around with it and see what works best for you. If you have a amber or dark colored bottle with a dropper to store it in that is best. I use my old Cellex-C bottle. Exposure to light will speed up oxidation.

I just got home from taking my son to SFO to fly to Spain for a year of study abroad, and on the way home I stopped in Berkeley to see an old school friend who I have recently reconnected with via Facebook. She and her husband make organic skin care products and it was fascinating to see all the natural ingredients that go into them. They had pots of things bubbling away that will eventually be distilled and incorporated into their products. She sent me home with some products and I will report back on how I like them.

I second Paula Begoun. She sells books called 'Don't go the Cosmetics counter without me'. Worth every penny - she dissects ingredients and debunks myths. Also has a hair care book.

Why do so many cooking forum folks hang over here!

So far it's pretty decent stuff. I think with it's dry touch formula, it'd be better for normal to oily skin. I still haven't figured out if I should be applying moisturizer prior to this and if I can apply my make-up over it. I also want to know if Milk of Magnesia could be fit into the regimen as well. Ack!!

Milk of Magnesia on your skin? WTF? Do tell Nike, what's up with that?

I don't layer lotions because I'll break out or develop comedones (those hard white bumps). I never understood how you were supposed to put the sunblock, anti-wrinkle cream, moisturizer, skin refiner, foundation, etc., etc. in layers like they tell you to on the bottles. You'd look like a greased pig.

I don't wear foundation during the day but if I wanted to wear it as well as sunscreen, I'd stay away from the moisturizer. If you feel dry, find a moister sunscreen or foundation maybe.

I remember reading a year or two back on this site where people were rubbing a light layer of MOM on their face after washing to help keep the oil slick under control on their faces. Believe me... I'm not nuts!

And yes, I don't understand about the layers myself. Right now I'm trying this Neutrogena Dry Sunblock under my powder/foundation during the day and light cream at night. I don't know... My skin seems fine with it so far...

YES - I've been using Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Sunblock for well over a year & I love it. Well, I don't love using any sunblock, but this one is by far the best I've used. I use SPF 45 every day, and I top it off with a dusting of Bare Minerals SPF 15 powder. (I don't know how much sun protection could actually be in a powder, but it makes for a nice, luminous finish.) So, I highly recommend this product. And my 10 yr old daughter used it for a month at sleep-away camp & came home with the same beautiful, porcelain complextion that she left with!
