I have a semi-formal event coming up. I have a basic knee length black dress I plan to wear with some cute strappy shoes. Am I supposed to wear nude hose? or black hose? Is it okay to wear panty hose with open-toed shoes? I hardly ever dress up anymore and I no longer know the rules!

I would opt for the nude panty hose without the reinforced toes. Unless your legs look great and are somewhat tanned, it always seems better to cover them up a little bit. My daughters can get away with the bare look, but not me!!!

By the way, black is THE color this season, so you will look wonderful. Red is always a good accent color if you have any jewelry or scarves in that color to go with it.

Never wear panty hose with open toed shoes - except the *toeless* type.

It may be a little difficult to find but you can get nude panythose without a closed toe. Some styles are completely open at the toe and some brands are a 'thong' type (thong like in thong sandles, not the panty part).

Toeless pantyhose will cover any leg blemishes and avoid the 'webbed' look at the toes.

It's nice to use polish on your toes for a fancy night out too. You can get away with a brighter color on you toes than on your fingers - they don't have to be the same color. A deep peach on the fingernails and a soft coral on the toenails can be a nice look.

If the wounds are deep, they likely will spoil. what is the hurry to remove fruits...to set more? If the plants are really healthy and stay that way till frost, they can set on more anyway. Course that 'really healthy thing' is a big if as the season progresses.

I think black hose or nude would look very nice and give you a finished look. "Nude" would be one of the colors which is closest to your natural leg color. I asked the lady at the Nordstrom's hosiery department if hose are "out." She said they are not worn as often as they used to be, but many professional women wear them, and some are even required to wear hose. I told her I wanted "nude" hose, and she helped me pick a good color, which I appreciated.

The dress looks great and from what I can see you really don't need hose. I frequent another forum and there is an ongoing "dressing young" thread. Small patterned fish nets are often suggested as hosiery as they are not as heavy as tights but provide a little extra coverage for age spots, veins, etc. I have never worn them but the women who suggest them have very good taste in other items Nordstrom fishnet hose
