Depends upon your personal taste. I would not go for the black mondo as it is too dark/ brooding under a redleaved tree. Prefer something brighter, A greygreen would be subtle contrast, with an Geranium renardii (what is the soil like, by the way.), Some golden green cheerful contrast, with some medium, solid goldengreen Hosta (August moon), How important is an winter aspect, do Hellebores grow in Z5 . Mantis - I got Shamrock Spring last spring and it's still in a pot. The plant is still rather wimpy, and my blooms are not in the 7-inch range. They're more like almost 6 inches. I think I got that one from Abundant Daylilies on the Lily Auction. I hope it will do better once I get it in the ground. Val - Chris said PSM did not do well in Michigan. I'm thinking it's tender. Both Ruby Lipstick and W. Little Lamb should be rock solid in the North. Nancy - Glad to hear you got some rain in Kentucky too. My rain guage shows we got just about an inch. Maryl - None of three has a white background. Westbourne Little Lamb's petal color is light yellow. PSM has a light peach petal color, and Ruby Lipstick's petal's are ivory. In very hot temperatures, Ruby Lipstick's petals look white here. When nights are cool, the petals look more cream. Debra

I have read that soil acts as good insulation, and so heat from under the tank doesn't do that much good with a lot of soil. A way to remedy this is to change the land profile by cutting out a portion to become a pond. This eliminates the soil in that area, such that heat is free to come up from below. This will also tend to increase humidity. However, I don't know whether you need higher humidity than that or not. You will likely want to leave glass off of some areas on the top of the tank, if you aren't doing so already. While this decreases humidity, you also must have some air circulation. If you have the area with screen and without glass at one end of the tank, the frog will be able to move between more humid and less humid parts of the tank to make itself most comfortable. -Jmcat
