I never had a salon peel but I did a lot of research about them. There are different levels of peeling, but most of the ones done are superficial, top layer peels. The deepest ones are a serious thing and require medical tests prior because of their toxicity. I am assuming you're talking about the more common type. They have nice results in giving people smoother, softer skin, but they have to be repeated often to maintain the effect and can become expensive. I do know one person who experienced problems with blotchiness after her peel had healed. This can happen with darker complexioned people and she is Italian. I also know a person who had one salon peel, but never followed up with skin rejuvenation products and it didn't really do anything for her by itself. You can get the same results by using a good alpha hydroxy face cream regularly, it just takes a little longer initially. You can jump start the process by using an over the counter home peel first. That's what I did and then I went to the alpha hydroxy cream and a copper peptide cream for building collagen. My favorite alpha hydroxy is the MD Forte products. You start with a weaker solution and progress to level III. They are prescription grade, but some dermatologists sell them on the internet without a prescription from your doctor. The MD Formulations is a weaker non-prescription version they also make. Most alpha hydroxy sold in at cosmetic counters are pretty weak. I would never bother getting a salon peel because I like the lasting results of having a program I do at home everyday. Your skin is still being exfoliated rapidly, but most of it is at a level you can't see, so you don't have to deal with the appearance of chunks of skin peeling off. I did get a little visible peeling with the MD Forte at first, but your skin gets used to it. It wasn't really noticeable to other people either. Do a search for "skin rejuvenation" and read the articles you find. Try to see through the sales pitches you encounter and look for the informative ones.

YES! Sun care is the most important thing. Once you have found that perfect sunblock for your skin, the rest is easy. I wish I had known this in my twenties and I could have saved my skin from a lot of environmental damage. browntoestoo, have you heard about this product called Meladerm? I SWEAR by this stuff. I used it to lighten some age spots on my hands and even my husband was shocked how much they faded. I know melasma and age spots are different, but I think meladerm is supposed to lighten all kinds of pigmentation. Also, my sister's doctor had given her a product called triluma for her melasma several years ago. I did help her a bit, but I think she was allergic to it so had to stop. I agree Hman both should be used at proper times. I was just listening to a garden podcast with Pam Bone a horticulture specialist. She mentioned studies of fruit trees taking up nitrogen in the late summer/fall to store in buds. The nitrogen remains there till springs. Also the Tree Tone product suggests fall fertilization of fruit trees too. So it makes it confusing as I've often heard to stop fertilizing by early summer. Something that hasn't been mentioned much is trace minerals, and so some form of organic can supply that, even mulch. In my area we are missing a few trace minerals. And I have seen deficiencies in trees. Also even farm animals showing deficiencies when no supplements are included in their diet. You need to know your area. You can mulch all you want but if your area is lacking in certain trace minerals unless you introduce them from an outside source like a complete organic fertilizer, or say azomite, you're not fixing the problem by using local organic material. Here we have very little Manganese and Selenium (almost none in local soils). Selenium requirements in plants differ by species, with some plants requiring relatively large amounts, and others apparently requiring none. So I add azomite, and other mineral products from time to time just as insurance. I'm trying to get away from urea and other soluble products, but so far I have not been able to, and not sure I want to. I like them a lot with seedlings as when the first true leaves appear, a quick fertilization with urea type products works well. Most soluble fertilizer are urea or ammonia. Either one does the job with seedlings. Also other applications when plants seem to need a pick up. Micro-managing growth of vegetables or other crops.soluble us useful. As far as efficiencies I would have to disagree with many in this thread and others. Everybody with a brain tries to make urea application efficient yet the run off into the rivers and the streams continues. So IMHO it's not working.
