what is a hair wrap? And why get one?

I have one made out of microfiber for after I wash my hair. Sucks a lot more water out than a regular towel, which makes blowdrying much quicker. Picked it up at WalMart for 8 bucks.

well- it's either a decorative pattern of string wrapped around a small braid, or it's a new-fangled update on the turban, they make them out of a 'thirsty' fast-drying fiber now, and they're less bulky than that big heavy towel on your head...

I bought one, but it's too small for my mass of hair, so I gave it to a friend whose hair is shoulder-length, and she 'likes it' but doesn't use it with any consistency.

I totally agree, leather furniture! I am not that crazy about leather furniture, but I'm sort of a lazy housekeeper and I was tired of battling the cat hair. One thing about leather, is the cat claws can scratch it up pretty badly. So you lose one problem and gain another. However, there are new little fingernail covers for cats claws now...I think they are called softpaws, or something like that. I was going to get them for my cats back claws, the main problem on the couch, but he's old now and can hardly get up there, so I won't bother. If he could get up there, I'd definitely order them. Also, I've discovered that my cats really like to have their own little beds to snuggle in. I did buy those cloth covered round foam forms for awhile, but never liked the way they looked... Now, I have an antique basket that put a soft throw in, and my kitty loves it. It looks much nicer and ever couple of weeks, I switch out the throw and put the other through the laundry. It's working out wonderfully for me.

Boy does this ever bring back memories! Being a Texas gal, I wore big hair. With 4 little ones multi-tasking was everything, so I'd shampoo & roll hair on big fat rollers, put on my bathing suit, slather tanning stuff on my body, cream on my face, put an old sheet under ironing board, & iron in the sun on the patio while watching the kids as they played. In short order my hair was dry, got a bit more tan, a facial and week's ironing done. Keep it short now- a bit of mousse, sides brushed back & finger scrunch the top & let it dry, then run a comb thru it. Ahhh! And now shudder remembering all that ironing! Pillow cases, table cloths (fresh ones for every meal) everything we put on our bodies & I was so particular I ironed all jeans & knit shirts... but the worst were DH's white dress shirts & those starched criss-cross curtains with ruffles! BTW ladies, I still see those hooded table hair dryers at estate/garage sales. Suzi

You know, if these girls are going off to college soon, a 'dorm survival kit' might be a fun little gift. When I moved into the dorms for college, things like thumbtacks, rubber bands, paper clips, duct and Scotch tape were always in short supply and high demand. Everybody remembers a clock radio but no one thinks of an extension cord. Perhaps not the most fun stuff but very practical to have those sort of things you always took for granted at your parents' house.

I wouldn't use products, though Ravencajun's sound good, and if they're working outside the sun protection might be very welcome. It's just very personal and you don't know who has allergies and sensitivities. Having to say no thank-you and give the products away can be disheartening, when the point of the gift is the opposite. You didn't mention a price range. Awhile back I did something a little similar, but it was only for six girls and I had a high budget. They LOVED it! It was inexpensive train case style organizers with the tacklebox style trays that lift/hinge out, with a few little things inside. Each got a thumb drive, cute ball speaker for the iPod/phone, pretty pencil, goofy animal notepad, a cute keychain and a screen cleaning cloth. I think they cost about $60 each to put together, but you could keep it under $40 and still put a few little things inside, or you could do under $15 just with a thumb drive, pocket notepad, etc. Another very popular such gift was Leathman micras. Those are around $20. Going back to Ravencajun's suggestion, if they'll be working outside, there are cute (like young cute) full on sunhats which protect the neck as well as the face for less than $10. Still, I like your own idea of the hair wrap and shower shoes, especially those superabsorbancy towels that fold to nothing. Even if they already have shower shoes, those get gross and need replacing. The only thing would be knowing the right sizes. You could add a few spa items like a small loofah and a pretty emery board.

I was looking for instructions on making a hair wrap.After doing a search I came up with your post.
I did find the instructions,and in case anyone is interested here they are.
I did read somewhere it would be much easier to braid the hair first then do the wrapping.

chinacat, which one did you buy? There's one on the market that says it's the "Miracle Cloth" (with the trademark symbol added) turban but I'm wondering if it really is the same Miracle Cloth that is sold in the Solutions Catalog for cleaning. The Solutions catalog doesn't offer a hair turban/wrap.

My hair is usually just below shoulder length, absorbs a lot of water and usually takes a lot longer than I like, to dry. I usually start with a towel, switch to a couple of 3-sheet sections of paper towels to help it dry faster, and then spend 15 minutes with the hair dryer. Either that or walk around with a damp head for an hour or two. So I'm wondering if one of these wraps would help....

lainy- I don't remember, but mine was $5 at Ross or TJ Maxx, and it does absorb a lot of water for the amount of fabric involved... mine actually dries faster than yours, from the sound of it- but the hair dryer is in the crafts room, not the dressing room : ) haven't used one on my poor hair in a decade (long hair is always properly groomed just like it is)

but when I need to- I wrap my hair in the towel, dry off, and then flip the towel over, and wrap my hair up in it again- it lets me hair get up next to drier terrycloth, and soaks up some extra water.

most of the time, I just braid it loosely, and let it dry in waves like that- keeps me looking good for 3-4 days (I shampoo once a week, wet it every other day)

you should at least give it a try, eh?
