Shave reduction lotions?

Anyone tried those new lotions that are supposed to reduce the need for shaving? Did it work for you?

I just bought some yesterday and will use it religiously to see ... it supposedly takes a little time.

What is this stuff - is it like "Nair" - do they still make Nair - I just shave anymore, can't stand the smell of the old Nair. Oh, are you talking about legs?

Seems like a false claim to me; your body dictates how often you shave. I'd be weary about a lotion that closes off your pores to enhibit hair growth.............

anilegna26 First remember that all the symptoms are just indications of the underlying problem so go to see a good nutritional therapist (www.nutrition.org) who specialises in children. I live in the UK and I assume that you live in the US so I don't have anyone that I can recommend but if you contact me directly I can ask the nutritionist who treated my daughter. You will need to fill out a detailed history about your child including what they eat, the environment they play and live in, vacciness, etc. Anything that could be stressing the immune system of your child. He or she will probably want to run some tests depending upon what you tell them. While finding a good nutrional therapist, I would recommend following the diet recommended by naturalist doctors which is what the call the mucusless diet. Meaning you eliminate dairy products including goat's milk and yoghurt, eggs, grains especially gluten-rich ones like wheat, oats, rye and barley, sugar, potatoes and other starchy vegetables. Replace them with fresh fruit and juices (i.e. You make fresh fruit and vegetable juices for your child as well as having them eat fresh fruit and vegetables. The veggies can also be lightly steamed). If you need help in formulating a feeding program for your child, get Mucusless Diet Healing System by Arnold Ehret. Also do searches on the ingredients of the products your child comes into contact. If you come up with any connected with serious health issues, get rid of the product. What you will be looking for in my opinion is things that stress the immune system. Could be toxins, the drugs, could be poor quality food, or cheap lotions, if she has had antibiotics in her first two years (the situation with my daughter), than look for leaky gut and also of equal importance if she has had antibiotics at all, a sufficient quantity of good bacteria (lactobacillus acidophilus and bifidobacterium bifidum) in her gut. Without these she could possibly have a yeast infection, or something worse. The antibiotics would not eliminate it, it would make it worse as it kills all bacteria but the most virulent strains are left to wreck havoc. Thanks so much for the info! Bluegoat your equations are bringing back faint memories of a college biology class. I've gotten much fodder for googling! Although it seems the answers to some questions just make me think of more questions. It sounds like "compost" is actually a continuum. Lots of activity early then a slow reduction of activity until eventually it becomes humus. What are the (technical) indicators that identify when compost is "ready" for the garden or "done" and has become humus? If the microbial activity is responsible for the heat how hot can a pile get before the heat is detrimental to either the composting and/or the welfare of the microbes? Do you want those microbes in the compost when you add it to soil? (that's what I think the compost producer guy was saying.) Bedding horses on pellets is a relatively new thing. One of the big advantages is that when removing the manure from the stalls you generally remove about half the amount of pelleted bedding as you would if you were using shavings or straw. Since straight horse manure is generally around 20:1 to 25:1 adding less bedding helps keep the C:N ration closer to 30:1--thus much faster composting than with shavings or straw which shoots that ratio up. It sounds like the finish product might be better too. I should be getting testing back on both 6 month and 24 month old compost samples (garden soil samples too) in another week. I figure the raw material mix of the compost won't change much if at all over time, so if I know my compost and I know my soil I can do a much, much better job of only adding to my garden soil what it may need that isn't provided by the compost.

This is a fun post. I will say that in my busy working military life, I could get up, shower, shave underarms (daily), legs (3x weekly)makeup (eye shadow, mascara, foundation, powder, lipstick), hair (washed and blow dried, very short), dressed and out the door in 25 minutes. Now, years later, I use far less products and it seems to take far longer. When I was stationed in Spain I could get waxed, from top to toes, for about $7 so I never had to shave of pluck or anything. That made getting ready for work a real breeze. Now, in a typical morning I use: face wash - I use an Oil of Olay-type face cloth. hand wash - Dial Complete on all the sinks, two baths, mudroom, and kitchen. bar soap - I use a liquid soap; DH still uses the bars. :( shampoo - Daily conditioner - Perhaps once a week. hair serum - Never heard of it. hair mouse - No, but I keep a can of hairspray for the 3-4 times I year I might use it. toothpaste - At least five times a day. floss - Yes, but should more often. mouthwash - Listerine; twice a day for gum protection. shaving gel - Ha! The few times I shave I use shampoo. deodorant - Kept in both bathrooms and the bedroom. Wherever I dress I'm ready! body lotion - Rarely, but more so in winter. foot powder/or lotion - Gold Bond all over. face cream - No; but Mom says I should. foundation - Very rarely; 2-3 times a year. blush - I'm taking treatments for Rosacea so I'm good on the natural blush! LOL powder - Very rarely; 2-3 times a year. eyeshadow - Very rarely; 2-3 times a year. eyeliner - No; never liked the look. mascara - Can no longer wear. lipstick - Every day. I love lipstick with colour, but not the pale, dead looking non-color most gals are wearing now. I wear earrings daily, too. I love lipstick and earrings. And that's the daily stuff, add to that the occasional: hair coloring - I stopped coloring three months ago. I'm liking the "salt and pepper," heavy on the salt look! tooth whitening strips - No. nail polish/ base coat/top coat - I cut my nails as short as possible and push the cuticles back once a week. When I worked I kept them short and polished with a pale pink color. I did it my self. I do get medium length dark red gel nails for the Christmas season. nail polish remover - No need cuticle cream - No, but about every four months I'll get a manicure that does not include polish or false nails. They just soak, trim, work off the cuticles and do a hot wax dip. hand lotion - I keep bottles on each sink

Did any of you happen to see the show "The Kardashians", when Kourtney waxed Kloe's hoo-hoo? That was the funniest show I have ever seen. Kloe's husband, Lamar, was coming home that evening, after being away for a long while, playing for the Laker's - Kloe had Kourtney applying MAYONNAISE to see if she could get the pain and redness to go away!!! I about pee'd on myself, watching that show!!!!

Gotta tell you ladies I swear by epilating. Secret is it helps to have your legs professionally waxed a couple of times to get the growth a bit softer, then buy one of those hand-helds on the page Weed posted. 'No pain, no gain' applies - but I've done it long enough that (1) now I experience very minimal pain and (2) I go a couple of weeks between sessions which I do on my own schedule, with no liquids, gels, mess or gorilla legs. I've even started on my underarms.

Jessy, don't you have to let the hair grow to a certain length before you can use one of those? That is not appealing to me since the lovely blonde leg hair of my youth has gone quite dark :(

Sorry I took so long to get back here Weed!

I think your hair needs to be a smidgen under 1/4" to be picked up by either the wax or epilator products. And it is not an 'every time' project because your hair will grow in lighter (in texture if not color) and unevenly so it will hopefully not be as unsightly as you think. Quarter inch for me is under two weeks. Lots of tequila and a quality set of tweezers for the strays helps too.

I still have 2 Epilady torture devices from years past; that particular brand does not exist any more but I think Silkepil has replaced it; my girlfriend has one of those. They work best on not too long hair.....

I get waxed every now and then, and in the summer, I do touchups with the Epilady; after 10 years of waxing, the hair is sparse and not too coarse.

Bikini waxing is torture; but does not last long; I will do the laser thing next winter for the bikini and be done with it....

Weed, I understand. I'm just giving you the information for the day when you are ready. The pain with the tweezer is far less than when on my eyebrows. I only brought it up because sometimes there are ingrowns.

My legs were so bad that the woodshop students would ask to borrow my shins for sanding their projects when the belt sander wasn't enough. Now it's close to baby skin soft all the time. The epilation machines of today have come a long way. Mitch is right - they work on shorter hair better. I forgot to mention to buy a small bottle of aloe vera; it helps the first few times, then you don't need it at all.

I was kidding about the woodshop students...but that's really how coarse I was!

weed~ It has been a couple of months.... do you think the lotion is working?

I have tried a couple different brands of shave reduction lotions and can't decide if it really helped or not....

No I don't see any difference at all. I'm using the rest of the bottle but won't bother buying more.

OUCH! Tried that waxing thing a couple of times. It produced blood blisters in my tender areas! Not the look one wants in a bikini, i think.
