Best Nailpolish for natural nails?

I've used OPI for years and OPI is what the nail salons in my area use. I love the colors but the wear time is very short - about 3 days before it rubs off my nail tips. I thought I was hard on nail polish but after I did a little research tonight I learned that lots of people feel that OPI does not last long on natural nails. Any polish will last and last on acrylic nails, but what can I apply to my natural nails that will last a week?

By the way, I always apply a base coat, 2 coats of polish and a top coat.

I actually have pretty good luck with OPI lasting a week (7 days or more) on my natural nails - do you have your hands in water or cleaners a lot? Just curious...

I also like Avon polishes - not the cheap stuff in the round plastic bottles (that doesn't last long), but the polish in the square glass bottles with blue caps. "Sinful" brand polishes are probably my favorites. Loreal polishes are pretty good too, but stay away from China Glaze...those barely last 5 days on my nails.

A good topcoat is probably the most important part of getting polish to last - I use Loreal 2 in 1 base/top coat or Avon's 2 in 1...both seem to work much better than OPI's top coat for me.

I like Sally Hanson.....and if I re apply the top coat ( I like the visibly stronger) every couple of days...I can get a good 10 days out of a manicure.....and by then it's beginning to grow out...UGH!

Thanks for the reminder that local requirements may differ; I should append that qualifier to every posting in small legal print. The pertinent North Carolina Building Code Section is: "2304.11.2.2 Framing. Wood framing members, includ- ing wood sheathing, which rest on exterior foundation walls and are less than 8 inches (203 mm) from exposed earth shall be of naturally durable or preservative-treated wood. Wood framing members and furring strips at- tached directly to the interior of exterior masonry or con- crete walls below grade shall be of approved naturally durable or preservative-treated wood." (emphasis added) I would suggest to the authority having jurisdiction that an interposing section of XPS means that the wood framing is not "attached directly".

I went from silk wraps because they caused my nails to be even thinner and didn't like the growing out periods to using Onymyrrh but DeLore stopped selling it. I found a product called Onymyrrhe that seems to work as well. I like it because you don't have that polish look to take off and on. You massage it in for less than a minute and then wash your hands. You can use it over your polish or on your bare nails as you rub it into your matrix an cuticle. A search on Google will give you sources. It lasts forever which is why DeLore no longer sells it.

mark_rachel, that is what I told my husband! And, Oak & Board, I've been studying this off and on for at least a year. You are one of my favorite commentors. I have learned a lot from you. Both of the samples are solid hardwood not engineered. KD is pleased with the quality of the floor and barely there bevel. Haven't seen a white oak floor yet in Michigan. Well aware of matching existing flooring of which we have none. Need a little more visual interest than the white oak. Considered natural hickory and I think it is too much for me. In my area, everyone is used to red oak. Boring Detroit area suburbs. Not a high end home.

I really can't believe the comments on this thread - judging someone by their fingernails??? Since when is dirt blue? While I would not want the long pointed nails for myself - in no way do I think they make someone look "dirty" as mentioned above. It's a fad/trend! "I cannot help but think that women who sport those things are just dirty. UGH."" and this: "what happens when one has to deal with bathroom issues? How is that accomplished and how much washing up is required?" WHAT????!!! My bathroom "issues" do not involve my fingernails! @Lukki Irish I think I mentioned here before, but after I quit work, I noticed a few months down the road, that my nails were longer/stronger. It took me a while but I finally decided it must be because I was eating EGGS several mornings a week. (Eggs have a high percentage of biotin!) I do not like breakfast early (more like brunch!) so when working I would most often pick up a little something mid-morning. So no sitting down to a breakfast. I do not wear my nails quite as long as you - but I could. Mine are a bit shorter and I also like mine a bit squared. I love a french manicure or a very pale pink or neutral color. However, I hate sitting in a nail/beauty salon having my nails done. LOL I use a good basecoat and a gel topcoat and that makes all the difference in the world. My toenails are always polished - a bright color and sometimes black. I'm another who hates gardening in gloves and only wear them if I am doing something that might cause blisters.

I recently bought "Nail Savvy" brand polish at Sally's Beauty Supply. I never had a polish last so long on my nails....8 days until I got my first chip (2 polish coats with no base or top coat). 3 weeks on my toenails! Usually I chip within a day of applying. There was no significant wear on the tips, either.
BTW, the color was a gorgeous vibrant hot pink frost....perfect for summer.

I'm a crafter, a gardener, and am redoing the house we jsut bought...so the amount of abuse my nails take is unnatural...and they're razor-fine,the kind you can bend in half.

but the only reason I have any nails at all is the coat of clear sealer I put on ever other day. even when I was 'just' typing for a living, if I wanted nails, this was the way that worked for me.

Use a nail bonder available at Sally's under your polish. This will make almost any of your polishes last a lot longer without wearing off at the tips so fast. Then use a good sealer when done. It's the oil in your natural nails tht causes the quick wearing down.

I agree with the Sally Hansen it has to be my fave as well. If you follow up with the same line top coat, you'll find your nails will grow out faster than the polish will wear off.
